Germination question.

so i've had this dark side kush seed germinating for about 2 weeks now. the seed looks like it has turned into a darker color.(not sure if this is a bad thing) i was doing the paper towel method, it kept getting a white kind of residue or hair like things. they could be brushed off with a simple touch. I now have the seed in a dark container of water. the seed instantly sank to the bottom. not sure if this is a bad thing or a good thing. and i would also like to know if i should put the lid on this dark container.

Not good friend. Beans should pop in ten days at the latest, especially in a wet paper towel (as long as you keep it wet). Sounds like you have a rotten bean there growing fungus now. I always scour (120 grain sandpaper or a match book stricker) on the root end right before germinating. Good luck. Peace

I use a wet paper towel and fold it over the seed and put it in a Tupperware container and then put the container in a dresser drawer. Usually after 2 days the seed will sprout. Sometimes 24 hours and sometimes 5 days at the latest if it's a good seed. The white stuff you got I think is mold. Next time you germ a seed use my method and I can guarantee success if it's a viable seed.

That's exactly how I pop my beans. I scour, fold into a soaked paper towel, place into a warm ventilated area (dark closet), and keep it wet. That's pretty much what I was telling you in my first reply. Do you scour your beans? With good beans, I'm always near 100% every year.

I don't with my seeds but I've known people that have and it seems to work well for them for sure. The paper towel method is the most error proof method in Tupperware is by far the easiest and most efficient method. If the seeds good it'll pop fast and if nothing pops after 5 days or so I usually toss em though, I'm impatient lol

Germination speed often depends on ambient temperature. If it's 70 degrees, it usually takes 4-5 days. If it's 80 degrees, it takes 2-3. That's just my experience. And when they pop, you should have a nice tap root sticking out.

When I have bum seeds that don't germinate, either there's no change or I get a fuzzy white spot on one end of the seed. I think that's a lame attempt at a root, but it will never become one. Sad, but just toss and start over.

Like you, I waited close to two weeks once, got that little bit of fuzzy root product, but nothing else ever happened.

Good luck with your next batch!
