germination question

I have some seeds all from the same lot I got from a friend. The first batch I used the same water, same paper towel, and I got several of 10 seeds that popped and sprouted a tail within 2 days. The tail grew 1/4 inch in just a few days. I planted and they grew fast and tall and two broke because of stretch. Second batch I got 2 out of 10 seeds. Out of those 2 one died, one is sprouting and doing ok but not growing fast. I started a third batch 3 days ago. Out of 12 seeds I pulled one sprout the second day, the sprout did not seem to jump out of the pod like the first, they cracked and I could see a small sprout. In all I got 4 sprouts over the last 4 days. One sprout cracked and the sprout did not come out really. I planted it in potting soil anyways. Out of the 4 so far I planted one is coming up, I see one other that looks like it is pushing up, and the others nothing yet. Why such a difference in how they grew? The water I am using is water from a deep spring and is some of the purest water in the country. I keep the seeds in a wet paper towel, in a plastic baggie, in a towel on a heater that is used to keep moisture out of closed areas, called a golden rod. It is about 90 deg.
