Germination help!

For my first grow,
I've failed to see the first 2 leaves out of 7~8 seeds..

I used a paper towel in room temperature (Ph 6.7 water)
1 seed cracked and I planted it to Coco coir (with Perlite)

It just did not come out..

did I make a mistake?..

1. I am really confused with PH level. is 6.5~6.7 watering ok for germinating?

2. Is Coco coir right medium for planting a cracked seed?

This is all very difficult and depressing for a newbie..
Please give me any advice..

Well if the seeds did germinate with that little taproot showing you might have either let them get to dry/wet and maybe rot or you buried them to deep

Don't worry about the ph of water, I use whatever I have at the time, wether its distilled acidic water, spring water, or water with nutes already in..distilled is no good as seedlings will have deffiencies, from my experience ph doesn't matter too much just for germinating. And I'm not suggesting you do it like this, just saing

By the way if you plant too deep, aslong as your watering is good they will evetually sprout, on my first grow this hapened to me so I re germed and planted, 3 weeks later I was picking out the original seedlings that kept popping up between my plants

Why not just try planting them in soil? get some starter. When you put your little taproot in the coco it might be a little loose or airy? Try doing yoyour seed starts in small soil or rockwool, rockwool works great. Just rinse it first.

I abandoned the paper rowel method due to a high percentage of failure...
now I put mine in a glass jar covered with duct tape in a warm dark place for 24-48 hours depending on the strain...

I did notice that my Widow liked to germ for 24 hours.... my CH9 Jack wouldnt germ until 48 hours....

I have skipped all the ph testing (probably a bad idea) and just use bottled water... seems to be working for me this year....

Oh, BTW it sounds like you are doing everything right, your ph and water are fine. If you are using tap, make sure you air it out a few days. But the way you describe is the way it is done by that method. The coco is the only thing I would wonder about, but many have success..so.. The whole moving the seedling thing is sort of delicate so my fat thumbs avoid it. Even a small soil starter would go into your coco media. Do let your water sit out if it has city chemicals in it.

I usually use bottled spring like ozarka, wet a papertowel not to driping put it in a open ziploc and check in a day or 2, sometimes ill use a heating pad if its cold. I've always had pretty much all seeds germinate but im interested in your cup method. Is that the putting seed in cup of water till sinks thing or something dif?

the seed just sits in the water till you see the tap root...
I keep mine over my heater vent to encourage heat and humidity...
the duct tape helps me keep it dark in there for the seeds if I have the jar out in the light...(like over my heater vent)
this brought my germ rate from 30% to 100%

I always soak my seeds for 12-24 hours then directly in pro-mix I've also used jiffy pots and Iuse a seedling heat mat. I get around 90%-100% germ rates. but I have had problems with the paper towel method thats why I don't use it. I've also read that microscopic root hairs get ripped off from pulling the seedlings off the paper towel atleast thats what Soma said.

in the 5 years ive done this the paper towel method has never failed me,ever. even in other gardening methods..interesting

Yeah...I'm super envious of you guys that can paper towel a seed and come out with a 2" tap root... I used to be able to do it all the time...but my touch seems to have wore off.
It's probably because of my lack of experience for sure.....

maybe its cause you think you suck at it, idk mymom showed me how to do it and i dont do it any other way,

Jiffy Peat Pellets is what I use to germinate... works for me and they are fairly cheep 10cents a Puck. This pic of seedlings is at 4 Days old, after being planted.

I agree jiffys for soil or rw cubes for hydro, they stay wet enough between waterings and can go straight onto a heat mat. I had a seedling with leaves germinated in 24 hours about 2 years ago since then i only use clones also in jiffys at about 95% s/r .
