I used the paper towel method and the seed cracked but didn't wait for tap root and planted it. Will it grow still?

Like 1/4 an inch maybe a tad deeper. Should I put lights on now or after it surfaces

Is it safe to before it surfaces tho?
after it surfaces, put them in a warm place like on top of a hot water tank.
