germinating problems

okay, i have quality seeds and feminized. i was trying to germ my northern lights seed and i did my favorite method, plate with damp/moist paper towel and covered and stuck in a dark environment, well its been a total of 4 days and nothing. the second day i noticed the plate was cold along with the paper towel so i moved the seed to a cup of warm water and tried for a good 9 hours and nothing. so again i moved it back into the plate and got a heating pad to stick under it and today being the forst full day like this i have nothing. my other seed germed but this one did not. should i wait and see tomorrow? or is this seed toast? can i force it to germ, like crack it open?

Or you could just place them in the soil and keep it lightly misted :D Quit wasting your time on the paper towel/cup or water bs. Drop the bean in the ground and watch it grow.

No reason to make this more complicated then it needs to be.

Sometimes they can take up to 10-14 days to pop but have never had one take more then 3 days by just tossing them in the ground.

Be patient maybe it will sprout, it doesn't sound good though. What breeder are those seed s from? Recently watched some White Label NL in glass of 75 degree water crack in 36 hours then dropped in rooters. :peace:

well i stuck both in the rocky medium and hoping for the best here. one has a good looking root placed 1/4 inch down so the water level may not hit her when it floods but ill keep her moist once every 4 hours and the other non rooted got planted hoping she grows

I used to have problems till I used this method, now I'm 99%. 1. soak for 24 hours 2. put directly into premoisted medium(tap root down, not too deep) simple as that, keep temps over 70F

If your in hydroponics then simply presoak a rockwool cube and place in a dome with some humidity and a little heat. I've been 100% on my seeds doing it by just placing it in rapid rooters or rockwool.

The germination process of a dicot seed

 1. All of the following conditions must be present for seed germination:

a. Temperature
b. Moisture
c. Oxygen

2. The seed starts absorbing water by imbibition. Water swells the seed coat and brings the dormant plant inside the seed back to life.

3. The testa (seed coat) cracks.

4. The ratticle emerges from the seed, and forms into the root.

5. The hypocotyl elongates, pushing the 2 cotyledons above ground. As the cotyledons are pushed above ground, the testa fall off.

6. The plant uses up energy stored in the endosperm as it produces leaves and extends its root structure. The cotyledons (photsynthetic in marijuana) photsynthesize as they emerge, and continue supplying the seedling with energy until they undergo abscision and fall off.

Once the true leaves are formed, photosynthesis becomes the primary energy source, and growth becomes much more rapid.

you can soak the seed for a bit before planting if you want to let the water get past the beans shell.

once water enters the seeds, it starts the process.

i usually just make a tiny pilot hole in my soil, not deep at all and push the seed in (without germinating first) just until it lays even with the top of the soil, then i cover it with a light layer of soil and use a spray bottle to keep soil moist till it hatches.

you want the taproot to face upwards, becuase the seed unfolds and grows. if put the seed in the ground the wrong way, thats ok, it has the energy to orient itself, but only enough for once, so stop messing with it. maybe thats why it wont germinate?

Could be. I planted the baby in the rocks not toooooo deep but I'm hoping it will still pop out of the rocks?

I put a heater decently far away blowing on the cabinet they were in. The cabinet door partially open. Temp 85ish. Theyre always ready in 2 days. I check the paper towel periodically to make sure in warm on the back of my hand. Like checking baby formula

One popped as I stated earlier and its planted. I am trying another route to pop thus other one I'll know in the morning how it went.

okay i got my seeds planted one popped above the medium but looks like its drooping. normal?

I'd wait until tomorrow then write it off as a bad seed.
