General Question about Grafting

When grafting does the scion keep its own traits or does it also become modified with the host? Basically I was thinking of trying to graft a skunk and violator kush. But I want to do this to keep it a mother plant and be able to take clones off her. My hopes is that the kush that I graft onto the skunk will stay the same and not become modified. The reason I want to do this is so I can cut floor space on these two therefore being able to grow different strains that I want to grow. But at the same time always have kush and skunk clones I can take. Am I making sense?? Its not floor space that Im in desperate need of but mainly just being able to reduce two plants into one whille still having two different strains.

i always thought that they kept their own traits, because like say you were grafting a tall apple tree to a short orange tree you would have apples on the top of a short orange tree trunk but a friend of mine says its different, he says that they blend together in your case making a skunky kush but im not sold on that i still think they retain their own genetic crap and you would end up with a skunk branch on a kush plant, my friend is doing this now with an og kush and da purps so ill have to wait a while to see if he is right

if i were you i would keep 2 small mothers of each, just keep them in small pots and as soon as the mothers get to big just replace them with clones instead of keeping the huge mothers
