sounds like good info man but how do you know things like it is not 100% organic and the "secret" ingredientI have used it and it works very well. My understanding is that it is not truly 100% organic. They just use the word organic instead of hydroponic so us soil people will buy General Hydroponics products. It is marketed more as vegan, which I believe it is; it contains no animal products (except BioMarine LOL, the first bottle I got said squid hydrolysate like a squid is not an animal for veganic?, now it says fish hydrolysate). The GO line contains small amounts of SYNTH, mostly for micronutrients and probably chelates etc knowing GH.
With GO you can definitely feed 15-20 ml/gallon on most strains (up to 2x chart dose as the chart says). It is a good line to bring more people on board to bottled organic based nutrition. I also like that the line is pretty streamlined and lots of goodies are in the BioThrives (base nutrients). Veganic is a definite plus for some medical patients and also for increased quality. The yield was always good too. For what it is (fermented plant extract based, non-PK boost style bloom supplement which also contains plant protein hydrolysate) the GO BioBud is a standout from the line and fairly priced and nicely concentrated. Especially compared to canna's $111/L retail price on BioBOOST (15ml/gallon recommended dosage)Ouch! The BioBud is like $42/quart if I remember right and 5ml/gallon recommended dosage. Another good GH product that is organic (I used it in veg then switch to BioBud in Bloom) is called Floralicious Plus, it is really concentrated at 1ml/gallon recommended dosage and also contains plant extracts ("secret", so not listed on bottles of Fl plus or BioBud) and the plant protein hydrolysate. GO grows great vegan plants (without the BioMarine anyhow)!

The way that I understand it is like so: there is no "synthetic" anything in GO nutrient line, it's vegan and natural. If anyone has actual proof to show otherwise, I'm all ears. I'm certainly not immune to mistakes.
There are certain natural mineral products that don't meet OMRI guidelines (they're pretty dumb if anyone has looked).
Say there's a bear walking down by the river; taking his time walking, he stops to look at this little piece of iron ore laying there. Is it organic? No, not according to OMRI. But the bear is hungry, and eats it. The next day he's shitting in the woods - as bears are wont to do- and out comes that piece of iron in his poop. Is it organic? See my point?
So the nutrient may not be "organic" in the strictest sense of the word, but they're natural. That's good enough for me.![]()
I mean no offense, but the soybean meal in the Bio Root is kind of proof I think lol. I agree with what you're trying to say, but I don't think the comparison is fair because technically General Hydroponics didn't find soybean meal in the forest, eat it, digest it, and poop it out.
It's probably good enough for most people, but if GO products are really organic, they aren't trying hard to prove it. This is from their site. "Organic elements...from organic sources"
BioThrive Grow-
BioThrive Grow is pure, natural nutrition for plants grown in soil or soilless mediums. Its vegan formula facilitates lush vegative growth and vigourous root development. It provides necessary organic elements needed for plant growth and strength in the vegetative stage.
BioThrive Bloom-
BioThrive Bloom is formulated to provide blooming plants with essential elements needed for superior blooms and harvests. The vegan formulation is pure and natural from organic sources. BioThrive Bloompromotes massive flowers and fruit and also encourages microbial activity in the growing media. It is ideal for both potting soil and soilless growing.
"Organic elements...from organic sources" So while I agree that it's probably good enough for most people, they have GMO ingredients in them.
And the bear analogy reminds me of why I don't use Seabird guano lol.
You're right about the OMRI guidelines being a joke, but like I said, Bio Canna has synthetic micronutes and got the certification. I don't believe that GO is avoiding OMRI because they don't want to reveal there secrets, unless their secret is synthetics.
I trust the local farmers and vendors that their food is Organic without a label, but I wouldn't trust a grocery store in the same way, they are a corporation. That's how I feel about GO. Like I said, great product, and it's probably mostly organic, but I think if they could meet the 95% required to put "organic" on the label they would.

GH is saying that the GO line is Organic-Based. Since they're in California, which has the most rigid guidelines on labeling products that are produced in the state, they are allowed to label themselves as organic based if they are at least 50% organic.
GH claims that they could get an OMRI listing but they don't want to give up their entire formula as required by OMRI.

Never thought about the whole GMO thing regarding the soybeans in that product. I've had great luck with the line this grow and hadn't burnt a single plant while feeding pretty heavily. Still got a bit of that line left and I'm not planning on running it again as I've just transplanted 6 clones into some Empire Builder so we'll see how that goes. Great thread btw.I never burned my plants with it either, and I've never heard of anyone else burning with GO either..so that has to say something. I imagine you'd have to make some calls to have a chance at finding out if there are actually synthetics, or find a disgruntled ex-employee lol.
But yea, like I said, I've still been using the Bio Root and Calmag, but I'm totally put off about the GMO sources now. Either way it's great stuff as far as I'm concerned, and it's a local company so hey.
