When you buy bambo plants, some times they put 3 or 4 stocks with roots in a container with the gel like that, and it keepts the roots alive for a certain period. But bamboo is really hard to kill. In other words, its super easy to grow so there for this shit preserves the roots..

You can also use these to clone. I have seen a side by sidewith these and they did not perform all that well.
