Gavita Enters the LED Market

Gavita kicks ass

but the price kicks your ass

In this market, you need something to differentiate yourself from the competition. HLG was the innovator. Rapid has their modular frames and you can retrofit. Atreum has competitive prices.

All this has is the Gavita name (and price). Doubt that's going to be enough but good on em for trying. Seems like a good fixture. I'd like to see them spend some cash and really try something unique.

You really just need good marketing and a fair price a "quantum board" is just a small nextlight

I'm no gavita fan but you have to know their market. Large licenced commercial grows need ul certified lights, and they need a lot of them and they want them now. Hlg has the certifications now, but I'm not sure they can supply as many lights as fast as gavita can, especially with the big corporate money behind them.

Do hlg have commercial lights, I thought they were just for DIY

The 550 is ul listed and I think the 370 is too, or its in the process l

That is a good point. I still think itll be a while before commercial growers switch over to LEDs though and by then their will be other options. They're practically giving HPS lights away now so naturally they will gravitate towards that since LED has a massive up front cost in comparison. Some of the smaller guys may just bite the bullet though. Craft growers that want top quality could see value in these

Yep, I'll be buying some to use in winter, and to have as a cheap backup light, should an LED fixture go out.

That's a good idea. It's cold up here in Canada and an HPS could double as a heater lol. Went to school for renewable energy so I appreciate things like this.

and was the cheap way to get one by buying china panels and DIY..

The fact that you don't know about the HLG550, concerns me...

I wouldn't call that a commercial grade product, it doesn't even have a cover over it. Commercial grade products can not have exposed circuitry.

It has zero exposed circuitry.

The board is bare right? No cover over the LED's?

These don't have exposed either.. if you look at how the LM301s get mounted, they have a white potting mix mask that is applied to where there would normally be exposed contacts.

Are the leds conformal coated also or can they be touched? Leds get damaged and contaminated easily, that's why they needs some sort of protection, I didn't see any on them and I also didn't see an IP rating, didn't see an IP rating on the gavita also
