For those using cobs or leds do you think its safe (e.g fire risk) to go on vacation for 5 or 6 days and leave the garden? whats the longest people have gone?

I've taken a week off with everything running. I use cmh, but I think you should be fine. Check for safety: no water near electrical equip., no wires touching things they shouldn't, etc.

As long as you have enough water to last your duration it'll be fine. If you're in veg, your plants will be taller of course. So, do some training if you think your plants will hit the light

It makes no sense to say check it once a day. If a fire is going to start it's going to start in a few minutes, checking it once a day won't prevent that. I don't see any increased risk of leaving your garden for a few days vs leaving it for 12 hours
Being there doesn't affect the chances of fire, sure. But you can respond to it.
Could mean the difference between some smoke damage and a total loss.

Yeah, I get it, it just seems to me that a fire would start in a matter of maybe 15 or 30 seconds, so you would have to just happen to be they're physically at that particular very short moment which would be very unlikely.

I guess the safest way to do it would be to have the dark cycle going while you are away at work or wherever during the day. Which just so happens to be the most convenient schedule for me so I can work on the garden at nights

I dont think ive ever heard of an led light causing a fire. i also have my light set for the nighttime hours so i can work in there if needed.

I bet the entire time you sat and worried though

Lol no, not at all. I was actually excited to see how big they would be. I knew they wouldn't have hit the light. I have my cmh at the ceiling of the tent.

And I agree. If everything remained relatively the same, what would be the chances of a fire starting 6 months after you plugged in your op?
Fires would happen in a matter of hours/days I assume. I smelled smoke coming from my overloaded transformer once. That took about 2 or 3 hours to realize. Was really relieved I was home to catch that.
And if you take note of plant growth, plan your training techniques to prevent the plant from growing into your light while you're gone.

I say it's all about planning. Do you feel like a fire safety man when you go in your garden everyday? Like "Woah! Gotta take this leaf off today!! It might....explode in 3 weeks!!" Nothing is going to happen while you're away on vacation. Plan and live your life

Water-proof all your connections to make sure, a little shrink wrap over those wagos and you should be fine. Make sure humidity and temprature runs steady to avoid dew dew being created. Of course with out knowing wattage and how its all setup we can only guess. Id be more worried about a hps setup than cobs, as long as you set it up fine.

I’ve left all my rooms running while I went 1700 miles away. My hydro room auto tops don’t need to worry it’s setup with overflow protection just like a your bathtub. My soil room is well soil if I leave I setup one of my gravity watering setups like blue mats. Never worry about fires. fires in the grow room come from Overloading what your wiring and breakers can handle. Most home wiring is 14/2 with a ground too much pull will heat those wires up and boom fire. All my rooms I built using 10/2 with a ground and ran it all through fire proof conduit. An each room has a breaker for lighting and one for accessories like fans and air pumps or whatever.

As i see it your risk maybe:
Failing cob catches fire
Water somehow shorts something out and catches fire
Something touches the LES and catches fire
The AC side of things are wired in a messy or silly way and somehow catches fire

Fialing cob: if its a serial connection it should will break the circuit and no more power thru the cobs. In parallel you may have extra power thru the rest of the cobs and have overheating, so serial should be safer
Water shorts something: should be fine if you insulate all uncovered live connections and make sure dew forming is impossible: low RH and steady temps.
Something touches Les: keep your lights higher and/or lower the wattage
Ac side: make sure everything is tidy and not having 3 plugs in the same extension etc.

There may be other things i dont think of but basic advice: make sure temps and humidity dont fluctuate for possible dew on connections, raise and dim lights.
If youre this worried it may be better to not leave it as you will spend the whole time worrying, which means that whatever youre doing on your time away will be affected as your head is on your grow.

Ps: i think it will be fine, if youre youre this worried about leaving the grow you probably was carefull setting it up

Or unicorns might fly out of my but, congregate at his grow, and munch all his plants, leaving herb tinged rainbow feces covering his grow.
I COULD happen man.......
You must be a very stressed person. It'll be fine.

Vacation season is upon us and I'm running into some decisions ahead of a vacation; fires or thieves is low on my list of concerns.

Dealing with watering and relative humidity for the 2 weeks while I'm away is largest concern. I've been hand watering and manually draining my dehumidifiers for this grow. I was stressing about this on the work this morning, but then had the idea which eased my mind.

Set up a dripper system using the 60 gallon reservoir and drain the dehumidifiers off into the reservoir. The garden consumes 4 gallons per day and the dehumidifiers will give back 3 gallons each day. In theory — and if I get the pump timers right — the net drain on the reservoir will be 1 gallon per day. This addresses ph drifting higher as the reservoir drains and doesn't get topped and the dehumidifier runoff is 6.5 ph.

The garden is 6.5 weeks into a few 8-9 week strains, so I'm thinking that the combination of dehumidifier runoff + nutrient dilution will be a great way to get a flush going.

Anyone run a similar setup and have advice to pass along?
