Garage Grow

Looking to renovate my garage ( section of it anyway) into a flower room only. Its about 9' 7" x 16'. Question is mainly regarding lighting. I run 600w HPS now. Looking to either go 1000w or LEDS.
I want to make sure I have adequate lighting to cover the entire space that isnt going to cost thousands. I'm really interested in LEDs but seems best fixtures are pushing $1k + if thats the case how many would be suitable?

Sounds like a fun project.

What would be you actual grow footprint? I might start with costing out lighting to cover 4x8 if that were my room.

I have a 4x4 garage grow in a 4x8 room using cmh and led. Hoping to establish a small veg room in the future.

Look at CMH lighting, thats the most bang for the buck right now. Also a lot less heat.

9'7" x 16' is actual footprint. I already minused the workspace. I'm keeping veg in the basement.

1000's even. Whatever works for you. If you have the ceiling height buy some nanolux 1000w CMH lights and hang em high to cover a 5.5 x 5.5 foot area.

I love cmh I don’t yield as well from it but the quality is on another level. That being said how many watts are you willing to pull or does it matter? If your trying to cover the whole space and be lower on watts I would recommend maybe using 315s. For me it comes down to yield per sq ft because that is my limiting factor is floor space so going all de hps. I can’t get penetration with the 315’s so I can’t match the numbers sq ft wise. But if I had more floor space I could essentially cut my watts per sq ft down, keep canopy a little shorter and yield essentially the same with the 315s watt for watt(but over a larger foot print). It also becomes quite expensive with the price of Phillips bulbs and cmh fixtures to fill a large room with them.

Thats what I was really thinking was 1000 DE. Not as expensive off the rip. 1000 cmh is expensive lol. I know long term cost is beneficial. I'll have to upgrade to those one at a time.

Do youre gonna use 8 lights? About 4 tons of AC?

I was thinking only 6. You think 4 tons will be necessary? I know it'll be hot.

A three ton unit would handle the heat from the 6 lights, anything beyond that it won't be able to handle it. So if the room gets any extra heat because of the summer heat, dehumidifier, co2 generator and so forth you would need more AC capacity.

I’m going with 2 tons for 4 lights so I’d think 3 tons would do 6 lights, but I could be wrong on sizing mine, I sure hope not. It’s like every person you ask has a diff opinion on how much cooling is needed. I’m hoping that 6k btu per 1k is enough.

You should be ok. Make sure the unit will restart after a power outage and you probably want low ambient as well so it can function when it's cold outside.

Thanks man yeah getting a Daikin and even though the specs don’t rate it for low ambient cool both my ac guy and the store I got it from both said it was an easy fix with a small part or something( I think it slows the fan down)

My 4 ton units are speced to run down to 5 degrees F. They have actually performed at -3 so I am pleased with them. The condenser fans aren't even turning when it's below 20F.

How do you guys with mini splits manage settings for lights on .vs. lights off? Are the newer ones wifi connected by chance?

I'm using an addon product for my lil 6k window shaker. Allows me to schedule settings. Sensibo sky

I may need a mini split in the future.

Trol master makes a controller that works with any Ac that has a remote (well most anyways) mangotech.store

Yeah there are several brands on wifi / remote control interface products out there, I am not sure what ones are the most reliable though.

My AC units are on a flip with the lights using 40 AMP contacts. So when the lights go off the AC does too, that saves me amps on my mains (I only have 150 amp service for the whole house). I had to convert the dryer, hot water heater and range to gas so I could get enough power to run my grow lol.

Awesome that you don't need AC during lights out.

I run a sealed room, so I must have AC during lights out. I'm playing with scheduling ramp-up/down temps for both cycles.

I like having remote monitoring and management, where possible.
