Fungus Gnats

I’ve tried stripping my tent, wiping it down, and drying out my soil for a week or so...I thought they were all dead because I didn’t see any flying around and I thought the larvae would be dead since the soils been dried out for more than a few days. My seed just popped this morning and I wanted to plant it but, I saw a single fungus gnat pop out of the soil when I applied water to the soil. I’m guessing this is just the one that I saw and there are probably a few more, either in the tent or in the soil.

My question to you guys is, should I plant my seed anyways since it’s done germinating? Or should I scrap this seed and eradicate the gnats completely before starting the next cycle?

These little guys are so annoying, it makes me want to catch them and rip their legs and wings off...

Where there’s 1, there’s more + a thousand larvae

Sand on top like myke said helps, mosquito bits or dunks incorporated in the feeds/waterings with the sand help extra. Sticky traps for the fliers.

Sand on top has worked for me in the past. It prevents the adults from laying new eggs in the soil. The adults are just an annoyance, but the larvae feed on the roots

Also, I sprinkle Mosquito Bits on top of the soil when I water. That kills off the larvae, and it's not toxic for you or the plants.

Thanks guys. I just ordered everything from amazon. I hope these guys die off within a couple weeks.

for me nematodes did the the best, checkout amazon for it.

I've thought about this but, I think my soil gets too dry in between watering's.

hm yeah, thats a factor, manufactorer says keep it moist for a few days.
the larvae does like the zone between wet n try, the nematodes like it a lil more moist.

my bti tablets had way less effect, i had just a heavy invasion, 1000s.
3 mio nematodes applied over the course of 3 days, 10 days later and there was just one gnat left.
benefit is when they have multiplied in the larvae theyre ready to hunt the next batch.
if you really want to rid of the gnats complety, nematodes a second time 14 days later.

you can use BTI and nematodes at the same time btw.

oh, i say its ok to keep your seedling, just start to fight the gnats now.
gnats are really a problem for seedlings, but way less for bigger plants.
