14 days in Jail. What a joke!
It actually isn't.
Although it was a 15,000 dollar transaction, it wasn't a fraud of theft. It was a fraud of illegal contribution.
They didn't rob someone of value. A lot of people in this thread are acting like what Huffman did was the same thing as bouncing 15,000 dollars worth of checks.
It isn't. It's not in the same ballpark. Hell, it's not even the same sport.
What Huffman did was pay to cheat.
Yes, it sucks. Yes, she should be punished for it.
But bear in mind this is a first offense and she never once denied anything. She owned up to it from the start and pleaded guilty.
Even if she had bounced a 15,000 dollar check, which is a far more serious crime than this, as a first offense pleading guilty across the board she would probably have never spent a single day in jail.
My brother floated 35,000 dollars in bad checks, was AWOL from the Army, had 4 DUI's and still only did 6 months.
I would like to have seen her get 30 days, but I'm not surprised she got half that. It's well within typical sentencing guidelines for the crime in question.
