from a newbie: should i remove new growth tips/shoots after lst?

This is my first grow. today is 43th day from sprout and 12th day from switching to 12/12.

i topped the plant at the end of week 3 and have been applying lst from at the end of week 4.

now; i have been trying to get 5 main colas (red circles in the photo) and get the most from the plant. so, should i remove the new growth tips/shoots (blue circles) arising from the stems to get the most from plant; or are those shoots needed to be kept as a part of main colas?

thank you in advance

Thank you guys. Are those small flower buds coming from the stem and the branches supposed to be rewarding? Atm, they are significantly smaller than 5 main tips.

have been trying to get 5 main colas
Sounds like you're going for a mainline / manifold approach, and if that's the case, then yes, cut off EVERY growing branch that tries to shoot out of your main branches. That way you will keep the flower development confined to the main branches you want only, and not to subsidiary branch lines.

Im not mainlining atm, I just try to figure out the difference in yield btw leaving 5 biggest cola only and havig 5 big cola and some smaller colas. Specifically: should i leave the tops in blue circles or rip em off?

depends upon how bushy you want it (to keep it low) or if you have enough light penetration to fill out longer/larger colas

first topping makes two colas....then cut those two when ready gives 4 colas....then 8...etc. These are the main stem...not lateral buds that will grow beside a cola and look similar but usually won't fill out like a cola

I usually try for 4 colas unless I want it extra bushy like AK-48 in pics at back right corner....my Maui each began with 4 colas plus lateral bud shoots.....at approx. 3 weeks into flower I trim any lateral that will not even approach canopy

the 2 Maui in pics are six weeks and the AK-48 is 4 weeks

small one on left is a Maui clone topped for 4 colas so with several laterals will have 6-7 by end. Each Maui pic shown started with topped for 4 colas and now one has six and other has seven whereas the AK-48 has 13 that made the cut

hope this helps
