Fresh frozen dry ice?

Hey so I've been making hash for myself for a few months now
Use the 5 gal washing machine
Reverse osmosis water and ice cubes
I like the results
But I've seen a lot on dry ice
I'd like to try it as I like learning new techniques.

I was all set up for a fresh frozen run
My plant was chopped trimmed quickly for the major leaves leaving some of the sugars
Then thrown in the freezer forgotten for a week.
Her I am today getting all my gear out
Small table, bag, machine, ice, spray bottle, screens, cardboard for dessicant, micro planer, towels
I wonder
It would sure be easier to just throw a plexiglass down and some dry ice in a bag
But my long winded question is this
Can I use fresh frozen material for dry ice extraction. Or does the material need to be already dried and cured?

It seems to me that since the ice would be lowering the temp of the material even lower it should just work the same
But then I'm not sure what thawing would do or if it would thaw.
Any advice would be much appreciated

I just recently made some dry ice hash so I can share what I did. I dried all my trim throughly super dry 5-6 days. Didn’t put it in the freezer first. Bought a lb of dry ice, broke it up in small pieces. Combined both the trim and the dry ice in a 5 gal bucket mixed everything by hand up for a few minutes and let it sit for 5 min for the dry ice to do its thing. Mixed it one last time, than put my bag over the bucket and flipped over and started shaking.

I used a mirror as well for the trichs to fall onto instead of plexiglass, than scraped it off. Viola done.

No. The trics need to be dry . They sell bubble bags on amazon cheap 220 micron is what ya want. Shake it into a lt least an 18gal plastic tote outside. Or do 3 stages as the plant matter starts to break down and it gets greener and greener. Use the greeny type for cooking.
Dry ice is the way to go..its cleaner operation

So I did a fresh frozen dry ice extraction last summer as an experiment to see if it works... it does work. The problem is that you need to dry out the material after you extract it... if you try to press it before its completely dry you will end up with moldy hash. Its not cool... also, you have to clean your bubble bag as soon as you are finished, They clog up very easily when you are working with wet trichs.
I used a piece of cardboard and let the sift sit out for a couple weeks, cured it and then pressed it.

let it dry. then super chill with dry ice before agitating your flower dont press your trichomes together after extraction.

Not sure how much I like the dry ice method. It's faster for sure but you pretty much always get some amount of contaminant. It can be cleaned out but that's just more steps. I think that dry sifting or water extraction makes a superior product in the end. That's just my opinion tho.

I agree dry ice the quality degrades quickly. Like I said above the first few shakes get you the high quality. Sure you get a shit load when you keep shaking but it gets very contaminated and is only good for cooking and such. I say spray it and make shatter.lol I spray A LOT of trim and bud. When you use the right butane and purge it very well it's stable as can be.(very dangerous though!!)

Dry ice quality always seems low from my experience. I greatly prefer making qwiso. Its fast simple, and if you do it right, the quality is outstanding. Especially with fresh frozen material, the qwiso tastes just like dabbing the oil right off the plant, amazing flavors.

The only down side I've found to qwiso is its harder to run large amounts of material. Its not really an issue for me though, as I rarely have large amounts to run. The method I use is in this link https://www.rollitup.org/t/thundercats-groooooooow.131193/page-134 :).

I totally agree about extracting with Butane but that wasnt the question. No doubt, I rarely suggest it as it is very dangerous but easy if you are careful. I blast all my trim and LARF for many and many years.

First off, its all about safety. Open air blasting means just that (or have proper ventilation if indoors), out in the open air. Frozen butane gas sinks SO if you HAVE to use a garage please ensure you have proper ventilation. Freeze your butane and packed columns for 24 hours. DO NOT have a cell phone or even car keys with electronic key pad in your pockets or nearby. Electricity and butane = not good. Check your cloths to ensure you don't have static build up. DONT wear wool. DO NOT let your friends walk in on your. Lock down the area. As suggested, purging is important and easy with the right equipment. Spend the 150+ for a purge setup with a pump as well as a reptile heta pad to keep your wax/shatter at 90'ish degrees F.

Or just get yourself a set of good screens or bubble bags and avoid hydro carbons all together. Well extracted full melt dry sift will kill shatter in the flavour department all day long. I'm not shitting on shatter by any means... but if you are looking for hash, dry sifted full melt is the holy grail.

No doubt. I need to break out my bubble bags and get acquainted once again. I loved the full melt I was getting out of my crops IMO. And yes I was using ice cubes and an electric blender.

Ive been making dry ice hash for 10 years. If you dry out the material first you will end up turning your trim into DUST and will end up with lots of contaminant. But huge weight....

Best to use fresh frozen. Far less leaf material will end up in the keif. Also dont shake too long... the more you shake the more green will come through. Yes, you will have to let the keif dry if you use fresh frozen, but overnight is good enough. Faster than drying your trim. Much faster.

Ive made dry ice hash that will bubble. But i dont waste time with that anymore.

Here is a pic of my last run i did a couple days ago. Its got too much green in it because the ice supplier gave me shavings, not pellets, which made it a bitch to shake out. Clogged the mesh.

Anyway, its still better than the best morrocan hash i ever smoked... and essentially that is what dry ice hash is. It is made basically the same way, but with dry ice.

I have two more bricks left to do.

Dry ice Degrades quickly....what?
Says a guy that sprays poison on his trichs? Lol
Been doing dry ice for ten years never had a prob with degradation.

I think dude was saying that the more you shake the faster the quality degrades. In which case hes right. I watched a buddy of mine kill some quality trim because he was getting a "return". Sometimes it's better to sacrifice quantity to get the best you can. Mid grade hash is great, not alot of non growers have access to it, but man, when your gear melts because of the time you put into your extraction, thats bragging rights where I come from.
I like the dry ice when I have alot of ground to make up, outdoor season usually. Some for hash, some for cooking, some for gifting. Indoor runs get the bags or the screens. Mmm hash, I love it
