Fpower's 1st AG grow!

Hello everyone, this is my very first grow with the aerogarden. I found this website and here is were I discovered the ag can be used to cultivate. I have been reading many threads for a few months now. So hopefully I won't be asking to many questions that have already been answered in other threads.

GROW:
I planted my 4 plants on 1/4/09.
My setup: AG space saver 6 (I wanted the bigger one but this is all that the store had)
Lights: The 2 stock ag lights, plus 3 daylight clfs 100w.
Water: Distilled, I bought 3 gallons of it so after I am done with those I will be buying spring from then on.
Air stone: one airstone seems to be perfect for a small ag like this.
Mylar blanket wrapped around the ag, its very cold in my house, no central heat .

So it has been 14days in the ag, I do not have a ph meter. I will be ordering one soon. I know my ph is not what it should be from reading the forums and seeing the pics of plants. My plants seem to be ok but they have brown spots and seem to be not as happy as I would like them to be. I have the lights on 24hrs. I don't believe that the lights have anything to do with the problem I am having, but this is my first time growing in water so any advice would be awesome.
Thanks for taking the time to check this out, I will keep everyone updated if peeps get interested.

The pics are not the best quality, I used a camera phone, sorry!

cant see much from the pics but they look like there doing fine..

hope they become beautiful ladies!

Question.

I have 4 plants in the ag right now, 2 in the back and 2 on the right front side. Why would the plants in the back be healthier looking and promoting new growth, while the ones in the front are smaller and not as voluptuous as the ones in the back?

I don't really know what kind of strains they are since they are just from w/e I've smoked.

Thanks for any feedback!

well your plants look burned, when did you add the nutes? the stock AG nute tabs buffer the PH so all you need to do is let the water sit out for a day with out a cap on then add into the AG, a good flush would be good, with some fresh water for a couple days, then when there a lil older add nutes and they should green right up, when you add the tabs, make sure that you crush up the tab and dissolve in what ever you use you fill the AG first before you add it into the rez,

I just started to add the nutes, I added just a little (about less then a half of the tab). Yea I think you guys are right the front is were I was adding the nutes so I suppose thats why the front ones are not doing as well. Thanks for the advice guys!!

well ya know it never hurts to back off on the nutes u can always tell from the leaves if u low on nitrogen by looking at the color of the green in the leaves ur lookin for a dark lush green.if ur low on nutes the green will go from dark to light green starting from the leaf tips inward :leaf:

Oh yea one more question.

When I flush, you mean to just change the old water out with new water?

yes flushing mean to change the rez, but you also "flush" the plants of there nutes during the last two week when you dont add any more nutes, same word, and two meanings

Ok, I changed the res and filled up with clean water with no nutes and started an 18/6 light cycle. Its been 17 days since I planted them. They are still browning up in the leaves but I will give them some more time with the new water. I'll add some new pics tonite hopefully!

Hope these pics are a bit better then the last few I took. Once again these are taken with a stupid camera phone!

The leaves feel real dry, is there a specific reason that is causing that? Are my lights (cfls) to close to the plants?

Are you using daylight cfl's ? Cuz thats what you should be using for vegging. Cfl's don't burn the plant. make sure your not using too much nutrients. You can always add some. I'm using the aero garden space saver 6 also. I'm about two weeks into flowering. I use one small tab for 9 weeks. :leaf:

yep I'm using 3 daylight 100w= 23 watt cfl's and the 2 stock lights in the hood. I did add one whole nute tab a few days ago, but then I flushed that out cause I think it was nute burn on the plants.

I will wait it out, I know I am being impatient with the plants but I just don't want to mess up!

Thanks for everyones advice!

I did the exact same thing when mine were that size, I added a whole nute tab(stock AG nutes) and my plants looked horrible the next morning, but I did that same thing and rinsed out the reservoir and filled it back up with spring water, and checked the ph around 5.8 or so... 2-3 days later they were all green again and looking healthy. Good luck man

Yea man happened to me, mine looked jus like that, that flush will do them good, give em a week or so to recover then add the nutes, its a waiting game, good lucc! i would also switch the pump to Salad Greens, its a 24 hours pump cycle, it will keep the plant watered and the leaves should moisten up a lil, mine started gettin dry too
