Footprint reducing, solar powered indoor system

Hey All,
I have an odd question, my wife and I have a thing going on how low we can reduce our "carbon footprint". It started out as a lark, but it has taken on a life of it own.
My grow-op is very small. I am using a 4' x 6 54w, T5 lamp set up.
The question is this, have you heard of using Solar panels to power a system?
We live in the Pacific Northwest, the natural lights not great. But I would love for the sun to grow my kids.
Or perhaps is time I step away from the bong.

Regards,

There is absolutely no reason you can't power your grow with solar panels as you would anything else in your house. As you mentioned, however, the PNW is not ideal for making the best of solar panels.

With a skylight and a light meter, you could easily work out a system for supplementing your artificial light with natural light.

Step away from the bong!!!!! As long as your high I have a question for you.

Does a female camel get human toe?

using solar panels as in ur plants getting light from a source powerd by the sun its self? not sur if it will give ur plants real sun effects

Solar panels run about $4.50 a watt, you're looking at nearly $250 (retail, new) for enough solar panels to maintain a 54 watt light. That doesn't include battery bank, inverter, mounting, installation costs, etc. But don't let me discourage you, there are deals out there, I saw some new 100 watt panels on ebay not too long ago in the $350-$450 range, though I'm pretty wary of buying delicate things from ebay.
