Foliar spraying should only be used when the roots are not absorbing nutrients properly.
wronggggggggggggggggggggggggg and wrongggggggggggggggggggggggg. you can foliar feed but the main light or lights have to be off while spraying so lets say u had a 1000w hps get a flurescent or 2 around the room or on top to give supplemental lighting as you spray ur plants and you have to wait till the plants absorb all the water before turning light back on. This is done to prevent nute and water burn on the plant. Also some strains develop root rot much more easily but if your running a dehumidifier at 50 percent then you have nothing to worry about. i also dont foliar spray for the last 2 weeks because i dont want the flavor to change from nutes on the bud or leaves and the ash from going nice and white and that nice clean taste. also always finish the last foliar spray on week 6ish or so and use plain water to run off any left over nutes on leaves. and you should never go over 800 ppm for big plants and half that for small ones and ph at 7.

I agree with most of this, however, I think that it's fine to foilar with the lights on. In fact, some products like liquid light have to have the light on to be used. For these, I recommend foilaring as soon as the light comes on, before any heat develops. Also, misting plain water will help pick up left-over nutes from previous foilar feedings and will help prevent burn if you have a hot room. If it's just a water misting, it can be lights on, off, anything.
I usually foilar till week 5, then mist only water for a full week to clean everything off. The last 2-3 weeks I don't foilar at all. People say it destroys the trichs but the trich re-grow and decay constantly. The trichs you see at week 6 are not the ones you are harvesting week 8-9. So, it isn't even an issue. Happy Growing!

Sorry to burst your bubble, but I read through the paper. It is a paper arguing that the roots uptake nutrients better than the leaves. However, it states several times that the leaves do take in nutrients, absorb them into parts of the plant, and are able to use them. The ONLY thing that your paper proves is that roots take in nutrients better than leaves when compared directly. It has absolutely nothing to do with using foilar feeding IN ADDITION to feeding the roots. And based on the science in your article, there is enough evidence showing nutrient absorption and benefits of foilar feeding to make me want to continue my foilaring.
Also, read your own research and understand it before posting - it could misguide people that also don't take the time to read it. (The article refers mostly to commercial scale farming)
If you use nutrients in your waterings, foilaring should be a beneficial addition (as long as it's not too high PPM, burning them can be bad).
