Flushing in prep for harvest

Well, here we are at the end of my first grow and alot of lessons learned (like better pruning practices). Im posting some pictures of the plant as well as some close ups of the trichromes I took with my new digital handheld microscope. The scope is difficult to hold in position but im posting the best ones. Next grow is going to be the White widow in hopes of not making the mistakes learned from in the first grow... wish me luck fellow hemp farmers.:eyesmoke:

Do you know what strand it is? Those pics aren't half bad good job on getting this far for your first grow. Good luck on the rest of your grow! And if you got any questions just ask we're pretty helpful around here :)

Grown from bag seed so its a mystery. Seems really frosty though with a lot of flowers throughout the plant. Total grow time around 3 months. Am going to try DWC in a couple 5 gallon buckets next. Thnx for the input I'm certain to have future questions.

That's awesome buddy , I'm working on my first grow right now , I'm just debating on when to put them into 12/12
but in probably gonna do it soon , haha I hope they look as tasty as yours . Haha cheers bro

Thanks! I didn't take into consideration the additional height that would occur durring flowering and my plant exploded another 2 feet or so. I had to buy a larger tent lol. I am thinking of naming her "Frosted Flakes"

if that last pic is a current 1, you still have a month and a half to finish that plant.

Holy crapper!... its been flowering about 8 weeks now... What are the telltale signs hat im missing? And what should I be looking for? I appreciate the input and will restart the nutrients. Here are some pics from this morning attached. Thanks again and tell me what I missed so I dont make the same mistake twice.

I may have also posted one of the smaller buds lower in the canopy so im hoping these pics are more detailed of the more mature buds. Is there a way to partially harvest to allow the less mature ones to reach their peak Chuck? im thinking its the length and color of the pistils that are off right?

it should look like a finished bud, all the white hairs should recede and the calyxes should swell, those look like they have a long way to go. What kind of lighting are you using?. There is a lot of salad looking leaf on that plant.

At first they looked like they have been flowering for only 3 weeks or so, but if they really flowered for 8 weeks, I'm guessing there's very little light above it. Flowering a plant behind the window in a cloudy climate produces about the same 'buds'. It also looks a bit like it's fox tailing already, especially on pic 5. Did you just recently place or improved the light?

I started growing her under a 400 watt MH in a 4x2x5 grow tent with mylar. Currently under two 600 watt HPS lamps in a 4x4x7 tent. Used floragrow series for the durration. Started grow from seed in early may. I'm shrugging my shoulders on this. So if you were at this point after around 3-4 days of flushing what steps would you take? I greatly appreciate your expertise on this issue.

Ok bro listen up, tell us exactly how long you've been flowering? Those are FAR from mature and no where near ready to harvest. Looking at your pics its most certainly looks like you have had a light leak for quite some time. You have some very big "lettuce" leaves on her which is most certainly a sign of reveg caused by a light leak. You need to be 100% certain there are no light sources during the dark period, for example the small light on a surge protector can be enough light to cause this, i've had it happen myself. Go through every inch of your room with the lights off. Once you've determined if you truly do have a light issue and have it fixed, your going to have to give it at least another month maybe even 6 weeks before you get back to a point where you can harvest.

This is a clear sign of reveg happening

I have them in the darkest part of the basement in a windowless room so I'm thinking its not light leak. Could it be the strain is sativa dominant? If so its going to be awile I think. I know I've had the light cycle at 12/12 for 7 weeks and recently changed it to 10/14. I think the lettuce is due to improper pruning on my first grow so I will go down in the morning and trim a good portion of the leaves that are shading. I reintroduced the nutrients to a ppm of 1100 and will dillute down to 800 or so in the morning. I will continue the flowering untill the pistils retract and change color. MAN..... What a learniing curve! I'll keep you all posted. Anyone think I should invest in a co2 generator?

Ok I do have a surge protector in the tent I'm going to remove it to the outside. Its the only possible source. Thanks man. Who would have thought it would be THAT sensitive... its like I'm married to it. I'll keep ya posted.

Those leaves look like Sativa to me. Figure on 12 weeks in my opinion. Look for amber trichomes, then it is done. Peace

the light on a surge protector will definitely do it. You would'nt believe it but I had that exact issue happen. My buds stopped growing, I started to notice reveg happening and I couldnt for the life of me figure out what was causing it. Then i pinpointed it to the light in my surge protector and sure enough once i fixed it about 8 days later she was back into production. Put your lights back to 12/12. 7 weeks of flipping the lights means your actually about 4-5 weeks into whats considered "true flowering"
This is what a mature/ready bud looks like

I dont feel like typing this out for the 100th time so im going to copy and paste

    • scoping your trichs is not the most reliable way to tell if your plant is ready, its already been shown that some strains/phenotypes never show amber trichs even when they've reached full maturity. Scoping trichs is one of MANY factors you have to consider, its not just one or the other, its looking at ALL the signs. And another sign would be looking at how your buds actually look. All white hairs should be gone, have mostly receded back into the bud, the buds will look bigger and fuller than you've seen them to be during the rest of the grow. You really can tell when your buds are ready just by looking at them. Factoring that in WITH looking at the trichs to get a much better idea of when your buds are ready to harvest.

Remember, you DO NOT WANT any amber. Amber trichs are degraded THC, which has now turned into CBN - not to be confused with CBD which gives you the couch lock feeling your looking for, which most indicas are higher in. CBN is known to give you more of a sick feeling that anything else and has no psychoactive properties. This has been proven in many scientific studies.
If your looking for more of a couch lock type high, you need to choose your strains that provide that.
Now of course for most grows you are going to have some amber trichs when the plant is reaching maturity if those strains show amber at all, but you don't want to "wait for 10-20%" if your plant has already reached peak harvest time.

It takes time to dial in your grows and I don't think anyones really ever had a PERFECT first grow. In fact I think having issues during when you start out growing are perfect as they help you learn what to look for, how to correct said issues. Excellent way to educate yourself further.
Don't worry any mistakes you run into you will learn to avoid next time. When I first started I tried to soak up as much information as I could, and what I found out is that for any thing you learn theres almost always someone else opinion that contradicts it. I eventually decided to "dumb down" everything I was doing instead of taking a heavy "scientific" approach to my grows. I learned to keep it simple all the way down to my growing medium and nutrients. Now I almost never have a single issue to contend with, and when I do its something minor and easily correctable. Cannabis is a strong, hearty plant that will grow as long as you don't "love it to death"
