okay so what is the difference between 50k lumens on a new wave fluoro and 50k on HID ??? it's the same amount of light, just less compact? what's the deal

yeah the fluoro is more neutral in color I think, but still it doesn't seem like a huge difference people make it out to be

Hey Johnny, 50k lumens as in 50,000 lumens from a flourescent light is alot. How big of a bulb is it.
But if they both put out the same amount of lumens the the difference would be that the HID puts out all of it's lumens in a more compact space.

K, 50,000 lumens from a flourescent light is alot, thats more then 8 bulbs depending on the type... but a HPS light at 50,000 lumens will make you're buds alot more tight and covered in resin, use the fluro for VEG never use for flower....

this statement is VERY overrated and sweated over about. yeah HID lights produce heat, but its not very hard to control heat with some common sense. i think a lot of people dont use HID b/c heat issues are overplayed.

your right they do get hot but its very easy to conrtol..HPS wont get as hot as MH and ive always used HPS.ive met quite a few people who were scared to used HIDs because of heat,fires ect...if you have a safely setup growing environment you will have no problem because it should be well vented anyways.

It is my opinion that you can produce great results or shitty results with either HPS or floros. There are reasons to use either. I use both for flowering and only CFLs for veg. HPS tend to have a CCT of about 2100k. I like to be closer to 2700, which I can achieve with CFLs.

I sure hope you are only using those 2700K(soft/warm white) CFLs for flowering only, for a good vegeatative cycle one should use the 6500K(daylight) CFL.

While you can flower with fluoros, everything would have to be perfect to meet the quality of a hps light, yeild will suffer. One major benefit IMO, is with hps you have alot of lumens concentrated. Fluoros and hps will both create heat. IMO spend $100.00 buy the darn hps light and you are set. But if you already have the fluoros, go for it, and enjoy!

Many have flowered with floros and were not happy with the results. If it's just a small personal stash.. why not have the best? If you can't handle it just smoke small amounts and it will last you a long time and when you friends come over you can get them balzed out of their tree.

How much does lower quality weed go for in your area? I don't even buy the low quality stuff anymore but i see it all the time and know its cheaps as dirt.
How much does the high quality shit go for in your area? I know that up in my area the good weed = a very heavy wallet! $$$$$
Hopefully after my CFL grow is done I can put to rest a few of the misconceptions of CFL's for flowering. I dont see any reason in the specifications as to why HPS would generate better buds.
Currently I am doing a lighting experiment using half red and half blue spectrum CFL's 2700k/5500k at 6000lumens per square foot. Come time for flowering I should be running 10,000+ lumens per square foot and be using 2/3'rds red spectrum 1/3rd blue.
Working off the general logic of the sun not losing a color range just because some flower is budding.
