if i have a plant now thats big enough to put into the flowering stage how many days should i plan for. THe most and min? If I want to harvest it at the most by mid may, when should i change the light cycle?

Put them in flower today (yeaterday is even better) if you want your buds to be ready by mid may! We are at the end of March now and all of april ahead, there is only 6-7 weeks until mid may arrives. Like gohydro said it really depends on the flowering time of the strain you have. But whatever the strain is if you want it by may put it in to flower now for best results.

once i put them on the 12/12 cycle will they get any taller or grow any new nodes?

They'll DEFINITELY get taller. Sometimes they'll double or triple in size. Plan ahead. If they do double (or triple) in size you'll need to consider ways to keep your lights at a safe distance.

Both. They wil double to triple in size in all directions. The trick is to keep up with them. When they grow another 2-4 inches taller in one day during flower raise your light at least that much of more. They tend to grow a bit more rapid once switched to flower for the first 4 weeks or so then they kinda relax and teh energy goes into fattening up the buds. Good luck

could you speed up the flowering by doing longer dark cycles in the begining, to really let the plant know or will that be too much shock.

I have never tried but there are others on here that have. I tend to stick with timing schedules that are known to work when growing indoors. I do however veg mine on an 18/6 cycle. I like the idea of the young plants getting a nap everyday and they seem to like the rest.

yeah. longer dark will flower earlier, but you will sacrifice growth/buds. Plan on 2/3 of your growth to happen inflowering, so plan accordingly.
