Why are the budding plants using so much water as compared to the others?

Also, I had one small branch bend but not enough to break but flop over. I trellised it 'upward' and it's not wilted. Will this heal?
 
budding plants drink more water because they are using most of there energy producing buds , i believe it will also heal
