Flood and drain systems were originally designed to use lava rock and/or clay gravel as a growing medium. The rockwool in this application is mainly for supporting the plant through cloning and planting. The rockwool is cut in small cubes,2"x2". A nail or toothpick is shoved in the top to know what side is up and you need to start the hole in the rockwool anyway so you can get the clone in it without breaking it. After the roots are established the system is flooded and the clones are placed into their position. For most flood and drain application that uses these growing mediums the watering cycle is 15 minutes start to finish every 8 hours. The bed must be flooded to the top of the gravel and completely drained at ending. One of the key benefits to this system is that the root system gets positive air exchange every eight hours. {NU:I/6 THAT OF DIRT PER GALLON} Five day total water exchange, top up daily.
