Flowering confusion

Hey guys I was reading around all the posts and saw that multiple people said they had plants that "Needed to be flowered."

Doesn't the plant automatically go into a flowering state unless it is purposely held under veg lights and kept from flowering and in order to produce clones?

If not what do I need in order to start a flowering cycle?

Right now I am using (not exact dimensions) a 7-8' x 3' x 10' room with 6 CFL's. I have one plant right now growing straight up (need to get lights closer so it don't stretch) and the rest of them have just been planted. Will get some pics up later today but in the meantime i wanna know more about starting flowering as opposed to the plant doing it.

Thanks in advance guys! :blsmoke:

Its all about the lighting schedule. Basically 18/6 will keep the plant in veg and 12/12 will put it into flower.

Ok thanks, so will leaving a plant in a 12/12 cycle be bad for it or will it just not get to its full potential before starting flowering?

Today I woke up and found that another of my babies decided to start growing! the guy came popping out! I cant wait!. The Big guy looks fine to me, still rather tall, moved the lights closer to try and stop the stretching. You guys think they close enough? not close enough? Looking good? enough water? Blurry pics I know but they from cell phone and I can't find my camera.

I a super noobie and I already killed 2-3 plants so I wanna make sure I get this right.

Thanks again guys.

your going to want to keep those lights 1-2 inchs above the actual plant

The last time i tried to put these lights closer i burned the plant. Will keeping them a little farther away (like what i have) make them really stretchy or will it be bad for them at all? I just don't want to kill the children you know?
