FloraNova not mixing or disolving in res

I'm still running a test on my system using FloraNova. If you have never used this stuff it is very thick, brown and gritty... or at least the stuff I have is.

Anyway my res has a lot of gunk after about a week. I shake the bottle before adding and when I first add it to the res it seems like it has disolved pretty good but after about a week the air line, pump, air stone and res sides and bottom have a gunk on them. It all washes off but it is a pain in the ass.

Is this normal for FloraNova? Has anyone done a comparison to the Flora Series and FloraNova because I'm wondering if the FloraNova will be a big problem when I start using my 48 site system with a 55 gal res.

TIA

I was using Flora Grow, Micro, Bloom. They mix very well.
I just ordered the FloraNova series. I have 2 air stones and a big pump
my water mixes well from all the air bubbles.
Maybe you need to adjatate the water more.
Try a Larger air pump, and the largest air stones you can fit in you Res.
or maybe some sorta of propeller on a motor.

Topfuel, is the Flora Grow thick and gritty or is it more like water? I've never used the Flora Grow only Flora Nova Grow. From pictures I've seen Flora Grow doesn't look like or flow like Flora Nova but again.. I've never seen an actual bottle of the stuff.

Yes, it's a water like solution. Everything seems to stay suspended in the bottle.
I don't even shake it before I feed.

If you are switching to Flora Nova you will have to do quite a bit of shaking. There is a label right on the cap that says shake vigorously. The stuff looks like a watered down syrup with sand in it :) and that is AFTER shaking it.

Anyway I would be interested if you have the same problem when you try using it. Like I said, it does seem to mix ok when you first add it to the res but after time there seems to be a lot of residue left over.

I use the GH Flora Nova nutes with the GH rainforest 66. I use a 30mL syringe to push the nutes into my water. Then stir it up with my EC meter. I don't have any problems with clogging on my aeroponics sprayer. The stuff is like sludge but it seems to grow good plants :)

You need to mix these nutrients very well as you measure them. I mix mine in 5 gallon buckets with 4 gallons of water. Yes, you need to shake each bottle well before measuring, and then stir the bucket well. When mixed, add to your res and stir some more.

I also stir each res every day.

I used Flora nova for a while and it ruined a grow for me. No matter how much i mixed it, the stuff would just cling to the roots and eventually kill the plants.. I switched over to Advanced Nutrients sensi grow and bloom and havent had any problems since..

Flora Nova is wonderful stuff. A trick I learned is to take a 4 cup container and fill it with very hot top water. Shake the mud (Flora Nova) vigorously. I mean for a good 5 minutes. Put the mud into the hot tap water. Stir until everything is disolved and you have a good evenly colored mixture. Now add the 4 cup container into 2 gallons of cold water and mix well. Now you can soil feed or add to hydro res. I use the Flora Nova for grow and bloom and have been thrilled with both. It is all I use except for molasses in flowering. I use both at the rate of 1/4 tsp per gallon for soil growing. I cut the strength in half for newly established clones and the first dose in the flowering cycle.

I think I'm gonna use a blender to mix the Nova.
or maybe a drill motor with a paint mixing paddle in my Res. ;)

So far mixing isn't the real problem for me although it might when I move to the 55 gal res. My concern is the gunk it leaves behind after a while. Is it worth the extra effort to use Flora Nova or would using Flora Series or Advance Nutrients produce the same results without the extra work (cleaning).

Also it seems I can never get the ppm anywhere close to what they recommend when I use their mixing ratios but 1) I haven't tried to cut back and see what happens and 2) my tap water ppm is about 350-400 but soon to be using RO. The PPM has got so high my Bluelab combo meter errors out. Right now I'm using just a 5 gallon res and I've read that when you use a bigger res the ph and ppm are easier to control on larger resivoirs than the small resivoirs.

FWIW I'm doing this with peppers right now. Don't want to risk any valuable seeds or plants until I understand and see how the nutrients and ph affect my readings and plants.

I was very happy with the Flora series, but I read some place that the Nova was geared for cannabis.
Well I got my FloraNova today mixed a batch in my res and it is dark as hell. You were right the stuff is like mud. The Flora series is alot more mix friendly. but we'll see what happens.

I haven't had any trouble with the Nova. I guess I stir it well enough when I mix it, it has never had any residue, or come out of solution.

Yeah, you have to shake the shit out of the bottle, but since I use the 1 gallon size, it builds up my arms. :eyesmoke:

I didnt like the way it mixed. The tank always looked DIRTY. I started adding h2o2, and then the problems really got worse. I started getting a jelly like goo stuff in the tank, AL B said it was pathogens, I switched to canna nutes. now my tanks look clean. My plants grew well on the nova, but the roots were always brown, and the tank looked dirty. My plants arent growing any better with the canna, but my tanks are cleaner, and the roots of my plants are white and very healthy.
