Can't wait to do some fishing this spring and summer. Might give fly fishing a try. What are you folks into??? Moving west I would love to catch some salmon or trout. Here I mostly catch bluegill , bass , and catfish.

Freshwater: salmon and trout. Ocean: anything, albacore salmon and a lot of the kelp bass

Never done any salt water fishing but I can just imagine how exciting it would be. Love grilled mahi mahi and tuna. Barracuda fishing might be pretty exciting. Shark fishing is just on a level of its own haha.

Kelp bass(rock fish) don't fight much but are real tasty. We'll have a smokey joe going, land one and in about 10 min its a fish taco....that is heaven. Whatever you catch from the ocean is either a lot of fun, or tasty, or both

He does it all the time.
The fish are pretty shagged out by then & he likes to make sure they are in good shape prior to release.
Killing a billfish out of malice or inexperience is unacceptable in that sport.

Billfishing is a boat game - a good captain can put a fish on the stern in mere minutes if necessary. You can literally "legally" catch a sail in about 2 minutes or less in a tournament situation (its a numbers game), but we typically took less than 10 minutes to finish the deed.
Bait was keel rigged ballyhoo fished on a harness with a circle hook (which avoids gut/gill hooking the fish).
BTW, 1st day trolling netted 6 Dorado in the 30-40 lb range, 6 sailfish releases and one 350 lb blue marlin (also released).
2nd day we released 14 sails.

Did I mention Rooster fish ?

Blazzed to fuck ...I once went fly fishing was a real good thing until I hooked a fish ...then it went real wrong real fast, I nearly drowned, wearing big rubber boots, I made such a scene that peeps come from miles around, nearly got busted ...to to embarrassed ...if I smoke and fish now ...I use no hook, but sit back of the raft ...enjoying the life ....lol .....lesson learned !!!

Muskie, pike, bass... all the regular sport fish. Lots of lakes up here.

There's a little pond not too far away I like to take my daughter to and catch bullheads, they give her a good fight.

love flathead fishing. 50#ers are very few and far between around here. especially since everybody keeps them now.

flatheads used to be the best kept secret around here...not so much anymore
