First try (and hard fail) at hydro dwc

I thought this would be plug and play...it clearly isn't.

It seems I burned my plant, it's got a pH lockout and I have to adjust the pH all the damn time since it rises for no descernable reason.

I clearly have zero idea what I'm doing Nd I should probably have stayed growing in soil.

I don't have anything that can read ppm but I do have a pH tester and a seperate pH testing kit . I'm concerned I've already lost this plant and I'm about to put it in soil to try to save it.

If some kind soul can let me know how I fucked up, I'll try not to make that mistake again.

Also, is this fixable?

Your plant can be just fine as long as the roots are nice and healthy. So don't sweat it. Nice thing about hydro is you can dump the nutes, put a fresh batch correcting the problem.

Get a PPM meter. lol

What is your water source? Feed mix? pH?

Damn you're fast. I was just thinking of you when I read this. I'm gonna follow along.

I'm using distilled water and Jiffy Hydro nutes.

Now before folks get all uppityand jump down my throat, I already know that they are crap. They aren't made for ganj and they're janky af.

I live remote so the only nutes I could get are through the mail and that's slow as hell.

The water is pH'd to between a high 5 and low 6.

I have General Organics CaMg for my soil grow, would that help or make shit worse?
Well I am not a fan of organic nutrients in DWC, that can cause unpleasantness lol. Mainly it's just nastyness that ends up in the system and on the roots. I suppose if you don't have any other option then sure.

I just added General Organics CaMg+ 5mL, checked the pH again, dunked the substrate basket to soak the plant and I'll order some real nutes right away. (No idea which kind or even what to look for in Hydro nutrients)

Along with that, I'll order a ppm meter and I'll keep everyone updated.

I have been growing for 30+ years. I absolutely LOVE GH Flora Three Part, with Calimagic if using RO / low PPM water and perhaps some Armor Si (optional). Thats all you need other than perhaps some Southern Ag GFF and pH buffers.

Checked on the plants this morning and Mutey looks like a rough muffin.

The pH was around 8, the leaves are fucked worse than before and this is only 8 hours after everything was fine....ish.

This fail was definitely a hard fail but this plant needs medical attention and I only know how to do that in soil.

I have to transplant today and hope it survives the transplant shock.

Don't take this as me giving up. I am going to try hydroponics again and again until I get shit right but I need to set myself up for the best possible start with the proper equipment and supplies first.

Until then;

Why the fuck is the pH rising so fast?

I am not familiar with those nutrients co I can't say for sure. Plus we don't even know your PPM.

This chart can be handy:

What do those roots look like, got any pics of those feet? You know what they say about bitches with nasty feet...

I can barely see it's toes through the bottom of the pot. Due to this set-up being a brand-name (Jiffy), they seem to want to do things in a proprietary fashion so they don't use a standard net pot. It's more like a thin and flexible regular flower pot.

I might change this plants name to 'Karen'.

Also, I couldn't capture her toes on film but I could see one withy eyeball. It's off-white and thicker but has no fine filliment roots branching off it.

I also read only good stories about that.
Do you also use the Lucas Formula? (or do I mix up thing now?)

I am very flexible with it's usage, sometime running something lucas ish for a minute but I typically run my own mixes. I like the adjustability of the system but I do sometimes add a little epsom salt when I just want magnesium.

Never worked with GH, but I heard that it can be thick and you have to shake it well because of the chunks.
And that it leaves a lo of dirt in your rez and pump.
Or is that a different line of GH?
