First time topping plants - how does this look?

Have 4 x females at about 3 weeks veg (3 x blue dream and 1 x amnesia haze) that I topped today and I wanted to know if the way I cut it looks right. The first 4 x pics are of each stem cut (I took off the tops at the 6th node) but I’m not sure if I should’ve cut lower and taken more off on some of them. The 5th pic is what I clipped off to give you an idea.DDF7E12C-AC9C-46D2-9C47-3BCA13B8187B.jpeg 5AA23006-C063-476C-BF43-6F2FA206981D.jpeg

Looks good to me:clap:
Keep us updated on how the go!
A lot of people from what I’ve read usually let the plant grow to the 5th/6th node and then cut just above the second or third node.
Have you thought about LST?

Yeah, plants look healthy, cut looks clean, though I'm not a huge fan of topping. Are you thinking of other methods? I like to get compactness with supercrop/lst/defoliation, without cutting tips. These plants aren't topped at all

Thanks for the feedback everyone. Man @Piratemccall those are nice looking I wish I was able to achieve those sort of results without topping and losing all that time to healing...

So as far as other methods I was thinking of doing some defoliation but that actually leads me to another question - when (at what point in the veg cycle) do you think it is best to start cutting foliage?? Is earlier better? I’d ultimately like to sort of lollipop the colas eventually.

Also what other types of LST would you recommend using at this point in veg (little over 3 weeks)?

It can totally be done without ever trimming a growth shoot. It's kinda the opposite of scrogging. Scrogging accentuates the natural traits of the plant. The methods I use most, I call it fractal farming, but it's got a lot of bonsai technique to it, tries to get the plant to use the parts it wasn't planning on without ever cutting a growing part of the plant. Can get great results a dozen ways if done right way right place... I think #1 thing I'd say is most "methods" will work in the right place and right time. Things get screwy when you try to apply to bad scenarios, or pick and choose, or just do every single thing you read about. I saw some posts where guy has a 6 inch plant that's already topped, then tied down cuz he wants lst, he already cut off six of the 8 fan leaves cuz he wants to defoliate, and he's asking about lo
Good job, OP. There’s nothing wrong with topping and/or LST. The level of training @Piratemccall is doing is pretty impressive with no topping.

Appropriate pruning is an essential part of horticulture. Hurt them bitches, a little, they like it.

Defoliation: It can either be vital, or not needed at all, and it can either stunt your plants and drop yeilds, or be an irreplaceable part of shaping a muscular plant. It has to be a part of a overall plan... Doesn't have to be, the plant will fuckin' grow, but you know what I mean... I'd say #1 indicator of what pattern you want to take is 1; size of flower space 2 size of veg, 3. light 4 strain.. then you can form a plan. If you don't want a Plan, then the bare bones is when a leaf gets too big and blocking a lot beneath it... But plans are better.

Lst - at this point they are small and you just topped them. I would just let them grow out a bit, a little pressing down but really just let them fill in the space for 7-10 days. Look for the spacing between nodes and wha kind of pattern it has. Some, the bottom shoots wont come alive at all without prodding. Some, the bottom shoots are first to shoot out like christmas tree. You used to be able to tell eaisier between sativas and indicas, but now the genetics are very hybridized, so watch for it's growth pattern the next week or two, it will help you figure out lst and defoliation better when the time comes.

But plants look good, you got a good base.

I just saw you're growing Haze and Blue Dream, Which has Haze in it and growing wise is basically Haze Light. When you grow Haze's, You'll defoliate a lot less. You still do, but proto sativas like that, they have this kind of momentum that gets fucked up, like a delay. They don't respond the best, and the leaves are thin, they don't block the light like Kush will. They are going to be whispy, like water. Haze is relatively a very difficult strain, I don't know if you know that, but it's good on your first go. Haze is the best! But tougher.. a couple flash points:

*Flower could take 3 months. It's gonna be that long anyway, so don't fight it. Longer veg, more training to fill in the "gaps". Don't rush a too small Haze into Flower!! The "disadvantage" is that the flower is longer, the advantage is, structure lends itself to filling in the gaps all Octopus Vine like, so if you bend them right through veg, that last 2 weeks before you flip they should be growing very quickly. So haze equals longer flower, but PLUS longer veg if you want to take advantage of longer flower.

* It's tropical like. In veg, slightly hotter and humid with a little less airflow, on cannabis spectrum.. Mold, mildew, excess mosture much less of a concern. Drying out, being to cold, avoid. It should like spray and foliar feeds. It would like it hot and humid for flower, but this is another difficulty where plants needs run against grower. Yuo don't want it too hot and humid for flower for resin production. Dosen't matter in veg. So, gotta balance ho low you can flower and be healthy.
