First time Qwiso or BHO run, please help

Hey everyone,

Just had a few questions regarding making oil

I just recently cut down my first plant, yesterday morning, its currently drying. My first question, should i allow the weed to dry like we normally would? or does it not matter if im just making oil with it regardless?

I was thinking of doing Qwiso this first time as i dont have an extraction tube and Qwiso just seems like maybe it would be easier for me as a first timer.

Is there any specific ISO i need to buy?

I had 570g of wet weighing weed when it was cut down yesterday , rough guess is approx 4 oz of dried bud

How much ISO will i need to buy?

Im sure im forgetting a hundred other things, but ill start here

You can dry the weed like normal which makes it easier to run larger amounts because it takes up less space in the jars :). You can also fresh freeze the material and run I that way to capture the freshest taste and most terpenes. I usually trim dry so I usually run my material dry. Both work great though I done right. I would have to dig through my thread for the link and I'm on my phone so I'm not gonna right his minute... But around page 120ish of my thread I posted a tutorial on how I make my qwiso. I put all the tips and tricks I have in it so I might suggest trying to find it. Or if you can't I'll try to update this later when I'm on my computer.

Brand of ISO doesn't matter, but make sure it's above 90% or it will take forever to evaporate. Make sure it is plain isopropyl NOT denatured. The ingredients should be ISO and water :), simple and clean.

Keeping the material and alcohol cold is essential to a good product. I use quart size mason jars for my batches. I fill them 3/4 full of material and use 1 quart of alcohol for the first wash, then usually about half a quart each for the b and c washes.

im gonna have a look through it, im sure ill track down the tutorial and a bunch of other good info.

I took all fan leaves off the plant and gave it a soft trimming around the edges of the buds, was planning a dry trim to pretty it up, but then i got to thinking, if im just making oil with this plant, maybe i dont need to do all of this drying first.

So are we always doing 2-3 washes? I assume first wash is clearest and cleanest? it will get darker and less quality with each wash? I am going for that nice golden color, my buddy made oil last year it turned out dark dark green and tasted horrible and smoked even worse.

My brother in law made it for his medicine , he used everclear tho, cant even buy that around here.

This guy knows his stuff.
I store my dryed buds or cab in a glass jar let's say 2l then I add about 1l of iso put the lid on give it afew shakes then let it sit for a hour, then sift through a coffee filter and dry off on a warm window sill, rinse and repeat as necessary

I always do 2-3 washes to make sure I get the most yield, it makes a decent difference. The first wash is tasty and clean. The second wash usually gets a little green, but not much if you have everything cold, and work quickly. I try to do all three washes as quickly as possible. Once the alcohol touches the material you are kinda on a timer. The longer the material is wet the more chlorophyll is getting extracted.

Butane scares me too :), don't feel bad lol. Mostly I can't work outdoors so butane is just out of the question for me.

I def plan to freeze everything and work fast. I seen you had material covered, swished around and strained within a minute. I'll try to mimic your method as best I can lol

Ya likewise, I don't have an area outside to work comfortably, I plan to use my dads work shop. It's warm and lots of space

He has a huge work shop with an industrial sized fan for exhausting the dust, seems like the best place to do this.

Just make sure you keep it away from the dust and shit. Specifically when it's evaping you don't want stuff landing in it. I do it all in my kitchen and evap in my basement.

With alcohol I think it's good to keep pouring it back through several times. I recently got a batch of iso extract that was very solid and almost white. I later remembered that what I did different that time was the reusing of the same alcohol, because I read that it will keep picking up more extract until it gets quite a lot in it. But it looks like it may also purify it, by the material absorbing some of the crappier fractions. Either that or it just picks up more of the THCA. Maybe having some already dissolved in the alcohol makes it a better solvent for picking up more. I poured it back through about 5 times as I recall. I pack the material into the pop bottle nice and tight, so it's a good capillary column. Gravity will drip it almost all out that way. I don't put any filter in the bottle, just a hole in the cap. A filter will plug up. I freeze the packed bottle/column and alcohol overnight and do the pouring and dripping in the freezer. At the end you would put some straight alcohol through to get a lower grade of tailings.

Cheers for your concern bro yes I understand physics but it's cheap it makes me plenty of oil, I could buy a compressor and adapt a set of fittings off the intake but then it's more money more fucking round and no extra benefits I live in nz bro this is how we make oil haha
