Hello all, this is my first post on the forum, but I have been reading almost religiously for the past two weeks or so.
My addictive personality finally got me, and I decided I wanted the personal challenge of growing a bit. I am not interested in anything crazy, but looking for about two pretty solid plants. Besides the issues associated with getting seeds and such, there are a few more questions I wanted to ask. I have a great location set out already, but have a question about fabrication.
The area is a doorless closet inside my bathroom that is attached to my bedroom. The area is 2 feet deep, 4.5ft wide, and about 7 feet high. Now, this grow is going to need to be stealth, not super stealth, but stealth. There is a door frame opening for the closet, but no door. I plan on getting a sheet of ply wood, putting it on hinges and making a small door for it. I would buy a prefab, but it is a rental house, and the door area is not a standard size. I am thinking about sealing the outside of the plywood sheet with rubber hose to guarantee a good seal along all edges.
In the top area, I am going to run 6" Duct out of the wood, with a 6" booster duct fan, up to the window that is about 1 foot away. I am also going to have a 10" box fan in the bottom for intake. Not sure if I want it cut into the wood or not yet.
As far as fabbing up the box, I think that is about it. I am going to do the same lighting as everyone else, the sodiums and metal halides, and possibly duct some cooling over the bulb, but not quite sure.
The next issue of course is the hydro system. I have been researching my ass off and have stumbled upon two systems that I really like. For some reason, I have been getting more and more interested in DWC systems, but I am not sure if they are the best choice.
If at any point, any of this stuff seems excessive, or that I can do it a cheaper or better way without huge changes, please let me know. I have yet to start, and I want to have everything in line before I do. I am trying to keep this very budget, but not stiff performance.

Now, obviously, the second one would be sized down, and so would the first.
I am leaning more towards the first and this is what I was thinking:
RubberMaid black tote, 3 top holes. 100GPH pond water pump.
I have not gotten my research around to the specifications of nutrient solutions and mediums yet, so that is the next part.
