  • Hey rollitup.
I decided to try out some autoflowering plants.
Gonna go with 3 different ones
New York City by Pyramid - its a diesel
    Candy Kush - Auto seeds
Speedy Gonzales Auto from Kannabia - im pretty sure its a diesel as well

Sprouting these seeds since yesterday, 3 are popped already. I will plant them tommorow.
How should I start these seeds off? I was going to put them in a dixie cup, fill it with seedling soil, cut off the bottom of the dixie cup. and put the dixie cup in the pot (5 gallon fabric pot). The seedlings roots will grow into the bigger pot and by the time it does it should be big enough to handle the richer soil mixture. Im using a 40% soil/peat, 20% worm casting, 20% land and sea compost, and 20% Perlite. I would usually use a bit more perlite, but with the fabric bags, too much water retention and drainage is not an issue.
Is that a good soil mix to use? Its working well on my GH Big Bang(non auto), she is growing like crazy.

I would like to get these right the first time so i dont stunt their growth at all.
I wasnt even considering growing autos but my gf wants to try them out and see if they are any good

I was going to stick with Fem seeds only because of the supposedly less potent buds on the auto's as im an everyday heavy smoker. Im currently growing GH big bang, Seedsman White widow(2 of em), BB Blue Cheese, Sour Diesel from Royal Queen, and GH the Church.
Anyways, if you's have any tips or advice on my first auto grow, OR you've smoked or grown any of the strains im trying, auto or regular, let the comments flow..........

Start in what ever pot your going to finish. 3 gallon min 5 gallon work well 10 gallon are tops. Dont try to clone them they are on a set life cycle. Dont make the mistake of overwatering them I am a proponant of Wick systems to learn hydro. bubble buckets with 10" nets are the bomb...Anything that says dwarf they are not joking 9"to 18".....20g max on dwarfs maybe 40 tops. just imo so far with them from what I have done.

If this is your first or second grow, it will be much easier to start them in the traditional "Solo cup", then gradually move up to 1 gal, then maybe a 2 1/2 or 3 gal, or just skip to the 5 gal.
But IMO, moving in smaller increments is easier for non "experienced" people to control their watering.
After you get a few grows under the belt, you'll be able to read your plant and see what she is wanting, in regards to water AND food.

With autos it is general practice to start in your finishing pot to reduce the stress on the plant. That being said I have seen people transplant autos with success, but have not seen anyone do side by side experimental grows to prove or disprove the side effects of transplanting autos. But general consensus is to start in your finishing pot with autos. I started in 3 gallon pots with both of mine, and I think it went swimmingly (is my first grow).

LST is fine for auto, and I have seem some people top/FIM them with success, but I myself would only do that on one of the longer life strains (i.e. super autos).

edit: I am assuming you are growing with CFL hence why you posted on CFL forum. I would plan to LST, I did not on mine since I wanted my first grow to be a control. You want to tie those girls down so you can have equal canopy height, for better penetration and to reduce the need for a lot of extra side lighting.

So i sprouted the seeds. I put them in a solo cup with some light. I filled a 5.5 gallon Reusable shopping bag with a mix of ProMix(peat, compost, perlite, vermiculite, lime, and micronutrients), some extra perlite, a bit of worm castings, and some Land and Sea compost. I then let the plants root for a day in the solo cups. I cut off the bottom of the solo cup and just stuck it in the soil bag. Now the roots will grow right through the bottom and never know they were in a cup. I think 5.5 gallon should be big enough to get a good sized plant. My Big Bang non auto is growing super fast and BUSHY!!!! in the grocery bags. They work as good as an expensive smart pot, WAY faster growing than my plant that is in 3 gallon bucket.
They are under 24 hour light for now, will switch to 20/4 in about 1.5 weeks.
