2 weeks as a seedling
1 or 2 weeks Veg
8 or 9 weeks in flower

I grow from clones mostly - I flower 7-8 weeks on most strains.

You could do that with 12-12 from seed, not sure about having a veg aswell. You can run 24/0 or 20/4 for the initial period to speed up growth, but it won't flower. These will be quick but just that bit less nicer. I have no personal experience just read alot, feel free anyone to correct me.

Whilst I'm here, I don't feel it warrants its own thread. I bought a PC grow case from mrgrowpro and was wondering how well this carbon filter would work? I've seen carbon filters with carbon inside of the filters, this isn't one. Are those better/worse than this, will this work at all? I think its an 'activated carbon filter' which is black. Here is a quote from mrgrowpro "but that's why i include carbon filter over the rear exhaust fan. It work very well"
and here's a pic: What you will receive ....jpgsorry if it's not big enough, it can be found at http://www.mrgrowpro.net/whatyouwillreceive.htm at the bottom, but I was trying to make it less effort for you to help me.

EDIT: golddog posted whilst I was writing this, he seems more experienced so I'd take his advice.

annierox,

Hello and welcome to RIU. May this hobby and community treat you well.

Setting up a grow is fun and we're here to help! There are a few things to consider:

Is the grow for personal reasons or is it motivated by the economic aspects? Perhaps a marriage of personal smoke and occasional extra cash?
Is this a patient/caregiver situation?
Do you pay your electricity?
How's weather in your space, any extreme temperatures/humidity?
Can you put holes in things like walls?

You could do that with 12-12 from seed...

RRain brings up some good info.

1. 12-12 from Seed: This is a very effective way to simplify a growing situation by allowing all purchases to be geared toward flowering; feminized seeds, one kind of light bulb, simple nutrient recipes, fewer repottings, one light schedule, and a small footprint. Here is a good source - https://www.rollitup.org/indoor-growing/416589-12-12-seed-thread.html

2. Size: Be realistic about your growing needs and plan accordingly. If this grow will be for economic reasons or patient/caregiver situations, a 5x5 tent or larger is the ticket. A smaller tent/cabinet/PC Case would be appropriate for a personal smoke situation. Challenges will arise and when they do, you will want to overcome and succeed. This is tough for any grower, especially new. So plan according to needs and you will already have an advantage over any issues you may have.

...

I'm also new around here but this is my piggy back:

If you're shootin for $500, plan to be done at $500; trichome magnifier, jars, and scale included. This hobby has a way of getting expensive. Planning is the best prevention.

The kits from HTG are easy to order and completely customizable. However, they're expensive and any upgrades will dig deep into the pocketbook; this is a problem because the base model isn't a very high quality kit. Make a plan and shop around!

A quick T5 plug: if a small space is appropriate, save money and electricity by going with a different kind of lighting. T5 fluoros produce high quality medication on smaller plants, at lower temperatures than HID lights. A 4'x2' tent or smaller would work exceptionally well in a T5 scenario. Myself and others are currently experimenting with aquarium bulbs: https://www.rollitup.org/indoor-growing/358190-led-without-leds-my-first.html.

Everything really boils down to needs. Keep us posted and remember to simplify!

I apologize for the massive absence. I posted another thread today then remembered this one.
I have decided on a tent either 4x4 or 5x5 probably a 600w system. I plan to grow enough to cover my costs and then anything else will be personal medicine.
