First time grower, few questions

Hey there. Been following for years on here. The knowledge and advice on here is fantastic. I have a 3x3x7 tent with 2 Viparspectra 300w Led. I planted 6 seeds. 2 Molokai Kush 2 white tiger and 2 mystery seeds all from DC seed. 2 died while germinating, left for Vegas for work and they dried out. 2 are in Jiffy seed starting soil and 2 are in FF happy frog. I've been using RO water PH 6.8 but after reading the lack of minerals in RO I switched to distilled with a little kelp extract PH to 6.8. I have two questions. First when or will I have to add calcium or magnesium with using distilled water? I bought organic earth juice calmag on amazon but haven't used it yet. 2nd one of my seedlings leaves look less uniformed than the others. It has looked this way since sprout. It's growing fine but it just looks odd to me. Any input would be sweet! Thanks!

One more thing. With as little water that I'm feeding these plants, I find it difficult when using the ph + - solutions to dial it in. Seems like I add one drop and it goes extreme in one way or the other. I bought some little glass droppers but still find it difficult. I buy jugs of water at Walmart for .88 cents. My tap water is 245 ppm but the chlorine scares me seeing this has been working well so far. Would it be easier to just PH the whole jug at once instead of what I'm feeding that particular time? Thanks

If you're that concerned about chlorine then just let the water sit out for 24 hours and it'll evaporate right out. I'd recommend just sticking to the tap water, 245ppm is no big deal and you won't have to supplement with CalMag as your tap water should have the right amount in it already.

Your other one probably isn't uniform with the others because it was probably just a dud. If you were having problems with more than one sprout then I'd start thinking it was something you were doing wrong, but since it appears to be an isolated incident I'm sure that seed was just a dud. Looking great so far my man, keep at it!

Right on man! I think just like any new hobby or craft, it's always tough to not over think the little things. I've grown plants with my tap water so I don't know why I'm hesitant to use it. I'll give the 24 hour thing a go though! Thanks for the input!

It's just because, much like any skill/hobby, you don't know what it is that you can and can't get away with until you gain experience. Uncertainty creates panic, and that leads to many rushed and often poor decisions. Just like cooking, less is more. You can always add more if you need it, but removing too much of something can be next to impossible. If I had to guess, I'd say that most plant casualties are the result of overwatering or over-fertilizing.

If you're doing this as just a hobby/provide your own meds, you'll be able to learn much easier because there isn't really much pressure. Friends/patients that I help grow their own meds tend to learn quick and produce some pretty stellar results, even on their first try. However, people that try to jump in thinking they'll make a quick buck always crash and burn. That's because every single time a little mistake pops up, it's a huge crisis to them because they're blinded by dollar signs. Not that there's even really much money in the business anymore, the days of 3-4k per pound are long gone haha.

Just consider this, if your genes are right you're pretty much guaranteed to have a quality product. When you grow, all the mistakes you make will mostly affect your yield and not the quality.

I considered these points and found both to be grossly untrue, no offense.

I would hold off adding additives, and just use a liquid fertilizer with micro nutrients w/ minerals. Also what about using rain water? It will probably be PH balanced already. Also I use to add Epson salt to my water as a "just in case" BUT I suspect now it may have added an odd metal type after taste so I am no longer going to do this unless I see signs that I really need to. This is why I said be careful of what you add and I suggest you stay close to what nature provides naturally. What are you going to use for soil? Will it be organic? The sprouts all look OK to me so far.

Really? That's interesting. In my own personal experiences I've found both to be quite true.

When I first started, my yields were horrendous. Airy buds that never quite fill out, making for a pathetic yield. However, everything I yielded was gold for the most part. Same thing with friends and family, I'd give them cuts from my garden that weren't good enough to make it into my flower room. Their yields never came close to mine, but their quality was pretty much the same if not damn near close to the same. All has to do with the genes, probably because most of the cuts I gave out to my loved ones were LA Con and Blue Dream at the time. Quality was great, but their yields were crap.

I am going to try to go all organic, just because organic has worked out well for me with tomatoes and peppers. I bought 3 cubic feet of FF ocean forest, Earth worm casting, and dolomite lime. Probably gonna add 1/3 perlite also. I plan on using the 5 gallon home depot buckets that I have already drilled holes in, fixed inside a solid black 5 gallon bucket for runoff. Might be overkill in a 3x3 but we will see. The hard part that I am having is I probably got 6 or 7 different strains from DCE and I would like to grow at least 1 of about 3 of them at first. But being regular seeds its kind of a crap shoot so I planted 2 of each.

Ive always been maybe a couple one hitters after work 3 times a week guy. I don't need the money, and my health is in check. I have ADHD bad, and even with the adderall I still need something to do. I just finished my head gaskets on my truck, redoing my kitchen and tiling my shower. So now that thats all done I need something to keep me going. Recently picked up wood working which I find extremely enjoyable and relaxing. But growing has always been something Ive wanted to try. The medical side is really what intrigues me. Don't get my wrong I love what adderall has done for me mentally, but the thought of eliminating an amphetamine for natural herb is exciting. Ive read strains that help with ADHD are out there, Ive just yet to come across them.

Best genetics in the world, the most healthiest ones, will only grow to their weakest resource, be it light, food, environment, water quality etc. even the best genes fail in fail conditions. Contrary, even sketchy genes can be coaxed and grown into a very special pheno/genotypes with proper environmental controls. Like mexi schwag, in my rooms those seeds produce great meds, better than the brick they fell out of.

Put my Stardawg into a shitty room and shitty produce results. get it?

La con and blue dream are awesome yielders by the way, ask around. sounds like you blaming the wrong culprits for crappy yields/quality?
