First time flowering. recommendations pls (pics)

Hey, ive had my plants in veg for about 5 weeks now under T12's and they are reaching about 12 inches in height. there is about another 12 inches left in grow space and was wondering when i should begin to flower. I know T12's arnt best for flowering but its all i have to work with. any recommendations on how much longer i should veg and when to start flowering?

flower now. They tend to grow three times the size during the first half of flowering. Keep those t8s an inch away from the plants if you can. Also add in every other low heat high effientcy lighting you can find. I can assure you one hundred percent that those will be probably much more than 22 inches. If they get to tall gently bend them over. Anything else just ask. sorry thought you had t8. you could get a cheap 2 bulb t8 fixture from home depot. t8 is actually the most efficient flouros. More lumens per watt than metal halide even and you can change the colour.
 
They look a little lanky, you should really try and get those lights as close as possible. If I were you I'd trim it up a tad, get the lights closer, tie the larger branches down, and give it another week or so before flowering.
 
dont trim. youll slow down you growth and reduce the level of photosynthesis. so thats a bad idea. do you have a nice fan on your plants. if you dont that may be the cause of your stretching. its been proven that plants that grow in windy areas tend to be shorter and bushier than those that grow in calm areas because the plant needs more stability. also you may want to move the light closer to the plant.
 
oh and i would start flowering now or in about a week. 12-20 inches is a good time to flower for an indoor plant. they look really healthy just a little stretched. thats almost exactly what my plants looked like the first time i did this.
 
Hey guys, thx for the advise. taking everything into account, im going to try and start flowering asap (probably 4-5 days or so) i still need to figure out the setup so that no light shines through during "night" time.

DarkSarcasm, yes i do have a fan blowing on them, but only on a light setting. also, i only started to put the fan on them when they got into 3rd week or so b/c they kept blowin over at a young age.
 
if the plant is still flexible oyu should bend plant like a "U"...if that makes sense. Dont snap the step but slowly arc it over and tie it to itself. the key is to get the grow tip as low as possible without breaking the stalk. let it veg like that for a week or 2 with the plant super close to the light.
 
Past, i tried that on a 3rd plant i had (the largest and lankiest) with minimal results. i noticed that after i bent it, the top leaves began to become pruned. im not an expert but i think b/c the stem was twisting, the top leaves wernt getting enough water. after seeing that, i released some of the strings holding the plant down and it righted itself in a day.

sometimes you have to do it in increments. tie it down to the side of the pot and tighten it more each day. the top will try to go toward the light, that is fine. after a week or 2 you'll see a lot more side growth and a pretty good canopy for t12s...
 
so i plan on beginning flowering within a week. but i have a problem. im going away the 1st to 8th of march, about when the plants should start to show their sex.....should i hold off on flowering till after or prey i dont get males (which im doing anyway)
 
it takes a lilttle bit to show sex, then it takes a few weeks for the males sacks to develop and even longer to open. let it veg for another week or so, the throw it into flower a week befrore you leave. thats a good meduim and you wont have to worry about pollen
 
so im planning on having 2morrow be the first day of flowering for them. i was thinking of adding a clf or 2 but im not sure how much heat they produce or how close they could be to the plants.
An update on the plants, one of them i noticed has yellow tips (which i know is a sign of over watering or underwatering). i not really sure which it is though b/c i keep the soil damp and only water when it becomes crusty and dry. is there any way tell wether its over water or underwater or if its something else?

not sure if you can tell from the pics but on one of the plants, some of the tips became yellowish/brown. but other than that, i let em grow to the lights as recommended and they are starting to fill in alot.

im having a similar issue with space. i would suggest flowering now. the only reason i cant put my plants into flower is because i have no hps light as of yet. just the mh.
 
how many t12's do you have on there? i am on my first fluorescent grow right now and would be happy if thats what they could look like in three and a half more weeks. right now i have two t8 four foot warm whites and two of the special two foot grow light t8's.
 
i currently have 2 t12's, i believe they were full spectrum 3ft lights from lowes but not totally sure (should have kept the box)

but i also have a small cfl work lamp that i used when the plants were young that i also picked up at lowes.

from what ive read and have been told, the fluorescents wont be strong enough to get tight buds but its all i got to work with now.
 
i know a guy that used to place his index finger and thumb around the stem of a plant that was growing to tall and gently squeeze the stem until he heard it crack, that way the plant growth would slow down for a short period, but i dont think this technique is very 'stable' you could end up doing perminent damage to your plant, i thin you should just LST
 
you could top the plant back to about 6 inches tall and try to clone the top..

youo wouldn't need to flower untill you got back which would be better bc in the first 2 weeks of flowering the plant will shoot up and if you are gone during that period they could stretch into your lights
