Wondering if anyone could give me any insight to what may or may not have happened here.Coco perlite mixtureGermed in a wet papertowel and then straight into the 1 qt mixSeedling sprouted looked good (or so i thought) then halfway up the stem got really thin and drooped over.I tried to plant it a bit lower in the mix but it was obviously unsuccessful as it died. Have my second attempt germinating now. Looking for a little advice so as to not have this happen again.Thank you guys!

Ah, I can't give any advice. Try again? Try 3 this time?

Wait, you went from sprouted seed to a 1 quart container? Not good.

I don't know why, but plants like to go up in small increments of planting container.

In a quart I bet you are seriously over watering. Go from seed to a tiny dixie cup, not even a coffee cup size. Many will go straight to a styrofoam cup, but it has to drain and you can't over water.

I know it sounds weird. What is bigger than all dirt, right? I think it has to do with the loose soil holds too much water. In nature if the seed is not eaten off the surface that is very lucky ganja seed. If it gets shady crack in the ground it is very happy. They don't like a lot of loose soil around at first. No plant does. Even a big corn seed does best when it can begin in the top of the row hump.

it got really skinny and tall and fell over trying to get light, what light did you use? how many hrs of light? how close?

Started under a 42w cfl and a smaller 30w cfl (i think)
To be honest i think i had the lights too far away (more than a foot away) didnt know they needed to be 6 inches or less

ok this time lights are gonna be closer and going to a smaller container, a lot smaller!

^^^Ditto. Sounds like Damping Off Disease. I believe it's a fungal infection, and one way to avoid it is to keep the top of the grow medium dry while watering from the bottom. I sprout my seeds in rockwool cubes, then water from the bottom and keep air circulating around the top of the cube. Once the plant is a couple of weeks old it's strong enough to fight the fungus.

Good luck on the next go-round!

Was considering the rockwool this time too. loving all the suggestions. Im gonna do some research on rockwool. I do know that my medium was pretty damp on top so this may have been another issue.

Yeah, its best to start in a small pot medium when they first sprout like rockwool cubes, small plastic cups or something that has good drainage holes. I am a first time grower too so I just use a burping self watering tray system when they sprouted:

Didn't have to worry about overwatering them because it waters itself. But make sure ur lights are close to ur plants like 2 or 3 away if using a CLF bulbs with good ventilation and u should have no problem. After a week or so they should be strong enough for a bigger home like 3-7 gallon pots depending on how big u plan on growing them. Good luck and keep growing :blsmoke:

P.S. Here is a pic of me growing some plants in those self-watering trays at 1.5 weeks from seed.
