greetings from canada
me and a buddy have 4 clones , the plan is to grow two outdoors and two indoors in a closet
now can some please give me an idea of what types of lights we will need, and the watt size required for two plants
everywhere i have been on the net reading says they use 1000w bulbs
what is the lowest watt u can go, and how much would i be lookin to spend for a good fixture, ballast and anything else i need
any info would be greatly appreciated
thanks

Welcome deftoner.
Growing two plants in a closet will need about 50 watts per square foot(minimum). Optimum lighting would be about 80 watts per square foot.
I've used a 250 watt HPS in a 2x2 square foot area, and had decent sized buds. The light cost about $250 ready to go from the USA. (shipping included). Im sure i could have got a better deal, but the light arrived in about 6 business days. Which is pretty good.

Their are other options. If your looking for minimum growth with cheaper lights, you could jam as many compact florescents into your space (as close to the plants as possible), while still making sure you have adequet ventilation. I've also done this, which wasn't as good as the 250 watt hps.

Keep in mind that if you buy an HID (high intensity discharge) light, you shoulod only have to replace the bulb regularly, so its mostly just a one time fee for a light you can use over and over.

Just don't use an incandescent bulb. These are the bulbs found in most people's houses. They suck. What i mean is they're very inefficient.

I hope this helps. We'll help as best we can with any other questions.

I would use a 600 watt h.p.s on two plants this will give you a nice few ounce but you will also need a couple of cfl's for a cloneing room.if you are gonna get the light make sure that you have a good exaust fan to keep the temps down or you will just be fighting heat issues all the time.you could even go 250 h.p.s but this will not give you has much bud come flowering time.if it is the first grow that you have ever done i would go with the 250 easyer to deal with the heat.

if dont want to deal whit heat coming 4 the lamps-choose cfl-s-they arte cheap and can grow good as with hps-it all depends if you know what your doing.many ppl bash cfls, but they are just as good as hps man.4 real.
