Hey all, thank you for stopping. As stated this is my first outdoor grow and I have a mixture of random bagseeds that I've been keeping for quite some time. No pictures at the moment however, I will be uploading images later today to give everyone a visual.
Germination - Wrapped 8 seeds in moist paper towel, double wrapped with a second moist paper towel, and closed between 2 styrophome plates. Then I duct taped around the edge, and wrapped in an all black pillow case. After 48 hours, 5 seeds had germinated and had tails between 1/4" and 1 1/2" long! ( One lesson I can extend that was a mistake I made at this point is that I pulled the seeds off of the paper towel, though I got lucky and no seeds were harmed this is bad practice, with my next seeds which are germinating now to be added to the current plants is to simply cut the small square of paper towel out that the Tap Root is connected to and move the seed with the small piece of paper towel.
After germination 1 of the seeds did not sprout, 1 week after planting the seed I did dig it up for reconiscence and found that the tap root that had broken out of the seed was pasty and rotten feeling and looking, therefore I credited the loss of this plant to overwatering. Being as my first grow I guess it's a common mistake but one that should have been avoided none the less, after realizing I cant water as much I made the mistake of underwatering one of my seedlings... Read below. Frustrating... but such is the learning curve and hopefully i'll be able to save this one
I am currently 8 days into the grow, I have 4 seedlings in solo cups which made it through the first week outside under the natural day light hours which seems to be 15/9 give or take. (I did start these seeds in Miracle Grow) At this point 3/4 seedlings are doing great, I'm seeing new sprouts in the middle of the first set of leaves and they're already 1" tall. I will be adding pictures to help follow the grow this afternoon.
Though these plants seem to be doing fine, 1 of the plants seems to be having a bumpy start. This plant is only 1/4" tall and the origional set of "ridgid leaves" yellowed at the ends and worked its way within 24 hours to the entire leaf, After checking the soil I was almost positive this was due to underwatering. I flushed the soil with pure water, then mixed .03 tsp of Better Gro orchid plus (20-14-13) into a 16.9oz watering bottle, i proceeded to water the plant with this very diluted amount of fert, since then I have cut the dead leaves off of the plant and in the last 18 hours it appears to be getting perky, and I am seeing 2 sprouts at the top of the plant for the next layer of leaves...( again i'll upload some pictures so you can follow )
This morning I started germinating an additional 10 seeds because after deciding to do a full outdoor grow I wanted to go ahead and work as many as possible, besides it's getting late in the year. These however I will not start with Miracle Grow, I will be using a standard topsoil so that I have more control over the nutes later on. These are also being done as was mentioned above in the germination paragraph.
As mentioned this is my first grow so if you read anything that appears to be off point please do critique, any advice or pointers is welcome, and I do have a few questions to leave you with .
How early do you start feedings? And If i'm not mistaken it'll be a weekly practice?
I wasnt smart enough to use a clear cup inside a solo cup, how do i know when it'll need to be transfered to a bigger pot?
What type's of flowers or plants are good to plant near the Mary-J to mask the scent?
I've done a lot of reading and hope i'm off to a good start, thanks for reading and pictures should be up in a couple hours
