So what I remember I used to do was catch the pollen somehow (any tips on how would help)

I used to keep it in a paper envelope and in my freezer, a better way to do that would be great info too ?

So the plant looks like some of the balls have opened but I'm not seeing any yellow at all, zero, none on the plants big fat green leaves and I'm monitoring it several times a day so I'm kind of confused on that, maybe it's shooting blanks? LOL (I don't know, a lot has changed!:wall:)

I used to have it everywhere when I used to chuck back in the 90s so anybody want to talk to me about these couple of questions or this subject in general, it would be much appreciated, thanks!

i store my pollen in construction paper folded envelopes, inside a mason jar, in the freezer.

i currently have sour diesel and blue moonshine viable after 4+ years in the freezer.

i am blown away that it is still viable, but this method has worked for me. will be using some more in a couple months or less...

Thanks I guess I'm going to put it in a big cardboard box, I don't have black paper but I do have computer paper or maybe just the Box itself will catch it, don't want to use newspaper..

* edit - it's coming out of the garden now that I see the pods open, it's going to fit completely in this cardboard box so I can close it up at night and use it as a pollen catcher in the day, so I think that's going to work out really well

I'm going to take your advice on the storage. guess that answers about everything, have some little desilicant things I'm going to put the jar that I store the pollen in so I guess that's about it, thanks again for the input Sour Wreck!

6FF19F56-48B3-43BC-88C0-5E8901658201.jpeg You should see pollen on the leaves , I’ve never had a male shooting blanks .
This one didn’t make the cut , but haven’t had time to kill him.

^Right..! ???

Wth is going on? I'm seeing quite a few open pods and there's absolutely no pollen, none not one speck, so to me this is kind of weird. (No fans on it etc, kept all movement minimal). A lot of things have changed in 23 years but didn't think pollen was one of them ? LOL

well it's out of the grow room anyway, I stuck it in the box, I'm guessing at some point the yellow is going to start flowing ? Thanks again for the input

That was kind of my first thought too? ..it looked like a pretty healthy male, I'm trying to get a picture of the open pods, maybe.. nope, they are definitely open there's a few open and there's no pollen ?15283780749191759251550.jpgThose look like open pods to me? It's been a long time though so that's why I'm asking ?

*Edit: Actually now that I'm getting a decent look at it (it's a little hard for me to see close-up shit cuz of a vision issue) I see the picture and I don't think they're fully open yet, I think I got it out of the garden just in time ?

For collecting pollen I cut off some top branches, stick them in a low jar of water so they lay over a fresh sheet of tin foil so the pollen and finished flowers can fall on it. A cardboard box with a 23w 2700K CFL on 12/12 is enough to keep it maturing. Tucked away in a closet somewhere away from the girls is good enough too.

You want to clean the pollen well of any small bits of plant material. I use a 180 micron screen to do that quickly. Then I put it in a vial and store open inside a jar of drying crystals for a few days then seal up the vial and keep it in that jar with the crystals. I haven't frozen any and it seems to last a few months at room temp tho I haven't tried any of the older stuff in a long time.

I've tried different methods over the last 20 years and that seems to work just fine. I usually use a cardboard box but couldn't find one of a decent size and just did it open. Now I have pollen all over that closet and have to worry about contamination for a while at least. So I suggest you look harder for a box than I did. :)

Just add more water as it goes down. No need to change it. A bit od aspirin in the water helps keep the ends from healing over too tho I never used any with these last ones and it worked fine. I used reverse osmosis water tho and that might have make a difference.

Careful when dusting pollen on a single branch on a female plant tho. Cover the plant with a bag and leave one branch out and do it somewhere other than the grow room so stray pollen doesn't go all over like what has now happened with my plants. I did 7 plants without moving them out of the room but turned all the fans off. Now I have seeds in almost all the buds and the buds really slowed down in bulking up so I have greatly reduced my yields. Going to have lots of seeds tho. :)

Thanks it fits in the cardboard box that my new lawn mower came in lol unfortunately I really screwed up its timing I basically abruptly flipped it around for my convenience, but I'm not that concerned about males, I'm assuming it's going to pollinate eventually it looks like it's about ready ?

I'm going to put it in the water as soon as I see the first pods open, as in the picture above it looks like an easy way and then I can chop it and get rid of the rest, I don't really have the room for males, might run a handfull a year to collect some pollen to chuck but it's not really something that's driving me, thanks again for that idea I like that system!

"Oh yeah now I remember" he says, as he's wiping up all the damn little white flowers and pollen all over everything.. :-/

.. nah just kidding I'm about to finish chucking it's a gunfighter and I'm hoping it's going to do good things with my romberry and I've got a couple of the crosses I'm going to make

  • new question:
How long do seeds take to mature?

(I'm thinking 2 - 4 weeks depending on variants like temperature, thanks for any info)
