First Indoor Closet Grow

Hello everybody this is my first attempt at growing! I've been reading for ages about growing, and I just couldn't procrastinate anymore so I decided to dive in. I have very big plans with growing my beloved MJ but I'm starting out small and would love to be put in the right direction by you guys. Please subscribe and feel free to post opinions and comments along the way.

Now to the good stuff: This is a closet grow
Last week 4 seeds that i got off a friend of mine have popped, and I planted 4 of them in soil in little plastic cups. One of my faster growing plants stems snapped which was my fault since it wasn't growing straight up so I tried to tie it up and it fell on me so I'm now down to 3 1 week old plants. One which is also a fast grower, and two painfully slow growing plants. I planted 6 more seeds last weekend, and they are looking very promising.

Now I have pictures to help you out with some issues i'm going thru. First of all 2/3 of the week old seedlings have purple/ browinsh stems. I'm not giving them any nutrients until the 4 or 5th set of leaves develop. I'm giving them tap water that has been sitting for 1-2 days so i don't know if theres any problem with that. I water them when ever the soil on top gets dry so I would say 1-3 times a day since they are under 4 6500k CFLs for 18 hours. (I'd rather play safe than sorry)
And on one of my slower growing plants I'm starting to notice a very small amount of brown on the tips of the leaves as of today. Is there any serious problems going on or what? I have no idea of the temp in the closet but it stays very warm in there, i'm guessing between 65-72 degrees. Is that a good temp or no?

If I'm doing anything wrong please let me know. I don't want to ruin my babies. And I will definitely keep u guys posted along the way. And how long should i have 2 seedlings in one cup?

You shouldn't have two plants in one small pot at all. I would go ahead and pull the smaller one. One healthy seedling will fill that cup with roots fairly quickly. The roots of each plant are becoming tangled and it will eventually kill both.

Keep the light on more hours a day. You aren't hitting them with a lot of light to begin with, and a long dark period just slows growth even further. 24 hours a day wouldn't hurt anything at this point.

Put some drainage holes in the bottom of your cups and water them generously, enough to wet the soil from top to bottom, then leave them alone until the soil is almost dried out again from top to bottom. Keep a cup of dry soil around to use as a weight reference until you get a feel for it.

Yeah, 1-3 times a day is way to much to be watering at this point, these are just babies and do not drink much yet or have the roots to drain all that soil at this point.

they look good overall, you will see some imperfections now and then, if they are small like these i would just ignore it, will be just fine.

if you don't have holes in the bottom of your cups they will turn into a mucky swamp and suffocate the plant.

you need to monitor your temps and humidity in the room they have cheap wireless batt operated ones on amazon for 20 -30 dollars Cannabis likes 78-84 degrees f and 40-60% humidity you keep them as close to that as u can get and they will thrive.

all cups have 5 holes underneath for draining, and will removing one of the plants from the cup with 2 kill the one i take out?
and what is a good watering schedule?

I would water them every 2 or 3 days depending on how fast your soil is dring out.

you dont have to kill the extra plant if you dont want too, you can carefuly break up your dirt and re pot them if you want. But 2 plants will not do well at all in the same pot.

thanks for the feedback guys, new update this morning i noticed something very depressing it seems my stems are getting darker and one seedling i just planted looks black almost  i searched online n it could be fungus or genetics. I just don't know at this point. I'm just happy that the leaves are looking good. I tried to take out the slower growing plant in the cup with 2 plants in there but my dumbass yanked it from the bottom of the stem so there are roots of the old plant still in there somewhere, i was wondering if roots still grow without the plant. (probably a dumb question to ask) but i'm just very careful with this being my first grow. I have pics n i took multiple pics of the seedling with the black looking stem. On second look my fastest growing plant is slightly getting some green back but just a teeny bit.

If i was using a container that had leftover fruit punch in it for watering would that be affecting the plant negatively?

make sure you have a fan with a light breeze on them for a bit, this will help strengthen the stems so they dont flop over like the one you broke trying to fix. everything looks good, i dont see the black on the stems they look fine. and i doubt the tiny amount of fruit punch will effect them i mean if it was just some residual left in the bottle (im asuming you rinsed it once but it still smells like fruit punch?) is not going to hurt them.

good luck looks like you should be all set for a few just be patient :)

ps: be carefull planting a ton of seeds for first grow especially if they are unknown strains, you may get a mix of 3-4 diff strains and could complicate things, start small and learn, then next grow can be the motherload.

so i should be worrying more about the leaves right now instead of the stems? cuz its really been bugging me this morning.

honestly im fairly sure you could water with fruit punch and not hurt them, but never tried it. Dont worry relax and stay your coruse they look fine.

new pics of the grow would like to know what you think? It looks like my fastest growing plant is starting to get green in the stem, probably was just adjusting to its new environment.IMAG0166.jpgIMAG0164.jpgIMAG0176.jpgIMAG0160.jpgIMAG0175.jpgIMAG0163.jpgIMAG0162.jpgIMAG0174.jpgIMAG0171.jpgIMAG0167.jpgIMAG0178.jpgIMAG0168.jpgIMAG0177.jpgIMAG0165.jpgIMAG0161.jpgIMAG0172.jpgIMAG0170.jpgIMAG0169.jpgIMAG0173.jpg I got some leaves that are starting to droop, and look dried up, any advice?

Over all they are OK most are stressed, yes your not seeing much stretch but i think your cooking them a tad. I think your CFLS are too close, Ive found plants don't like to be right next to the cfl till they are fully established plants about 12 inches tall ish you have seedlings still and should give them less light. Its a fine line between damage and over stretch at this stage. i recommend to you that you slowly back your lights off and watch how it goes, a little goes a long way. Balance between low light stretch and close up light burn.

also your dirt looks a tad dry still try to keep it moist but not drenched and soupy, they wont drink much at this stage but they are more fragile to extremes.

bottom line if you keep them alive through this stage they will adapt and thrive, however stress will add to your grow time.
so try to minimize it read your plants they tell you when they are not happy, you have to be careful not to over react,
normaly doing nothing is the best answer.

just my experiences and i am by no means the authority on this

so i should bring the cfls up all at once or a little bit every couple hours? and is the drooping and brown spots on the leaves a sign of something bad?

i believe the marks are from light damage, to be sure you can back your lights off a little and see what happenes.

yeah back them off all at once, i would start about double the distance you have now, and if u find you need more light just inch them in a little.

IMAG0182.jpgIMAG0186.jpgIMAG0187.jpgIMAG0180.jpgIMAG0185.jpgIMAG0183.jpgIMAG0179.jpgIMAG0184.jpgIMAG0181.jpg

brown spots are showing up on the leaves n the drooping is getting worse, even tho i adjusted lights yesterday... I hope its going to be ok. It might be the soil. Im using gardenscape, which i got from the dollar store and it says its good soil on the bag but... i don't know. what do u think?

Now you need to let them heal, try to touch them as little as possible, i know when you see imperfections on your plants its easy to start adjusting everything. but they are better off being left alone and not constantly messed with. now that your lights are backed off they should start to recover. its a fine line between to much light and not enough. once your plants are larger and have established root systems produceing large fan leaves they will want to be right next to your CFLS but for now they need reduced light.

most likely your plant will have to grown new leaves before you see visual sings of healing.

your dirt looks to wet i even see mold growing in one of the cups, mold is not bad but a sign of over watering, stick your finger deep in a cup be sure not to disturb the seedling, i have a feeling you have soup in the bottom of your cup thats making it hard for them to grow.

read your plants

see how they are a lime yellow green, thats nutrient lock most likely from imbalanced ph possibly from over watering, notice how some are drooping or wiliting, thats most likely from over over watering too or heat/light stress. learn the weight of the cups when they are dry they get VERY light in weight when dry, eventualy you will be able to tell exactly how wet they are by the weight. and eventualy when they are larger and always very light most likey they are becoming pot bound.

I know i told you not to let them dry out, but at this stage these little guys arnt going to drink enough to dry out your soil, and its easy to turn these cups into a wet swamp in the bottom, this not only drowns the plant it creates a very smelly and toxic enviorment for then seedlings.

so!

hang in there and stop changing things (unless u absoulty have too)

check your soil for soup (you most likely will not need to water much at all till they start getting bigger)

wtach your plants and as they get bigger and stronger give them more light

I do not claim to know everything, i am simply sharing what i would do if i were you

oh yeah ive used the Dollar Store dollar a bag soil, its ok works. HOWEVER IT HAS A TENDENCY TO GET SWAMPY because of its lack of proper moisture controls in the mixture. like perlight and thoese balls that hold moisture you can pop in your fingers, what are thoese called anyways!>?>?

Nice start man. Lookin forward to them gettin big.

Come by my closet kush grow. Links in my signature. Bout to post some harvest bud porn in a minute if u wanna take a look

new pics... To be honest its not the wait thats making me mad its just how they look, i have no real experience with growing but I've never seen anything look like this. And I think I heard that stress causes a plant to lean towards a male, or hermie or something so this is going to be a very interesting experience.

So what do y'all think? Are the brown spots getting worse?

What are your temps running? One thing I've learned too is to fill the party cups all the way to the top. This way the root has more room to grow and if the little sprout is inside of the cup it can over heat the baby.
