First Grow

Ok, I have 10 seeds that I plan on germinating soon(first grow).

I am planting them outside near a river.

Is it smart to get some growing soil and mix it with the natural dirt? How packed should the dirt be? How long after I plant the seeds will I need to do anything special?(by that I mean besides watering every week or whatever...) How long before I need to remove the males from the females?
