First Grow with 300W Advanced Platinum LED Grow Light

I just started my first grow with a 300W Advanced Platinum LED from AdvancedLEDgrow.com. Here are some pictures. I germinated 6 seeds on Nov 25th, 2 Whte Widow, 2 Aurora and 2 Northern Lights in a covered mug. When they sprouted roots, I placed each one in a rooter plug and put them in under the 300W LED for 18 hrs:

Subbed up. Interested to see how these "advanced" panels work. I've used the other advanced in the past. Is that light really 300w at the socket or are the leds being under driven? It looks kind of small for 300 true watts is why I'm asking

I commented in another thread about you grow before I saw this thread. This is what I posted;

"Hate to be a Bad News Bear but, I checked out your journal and I think you're in way over your head.
The system you built is for plants grown from clones with little to no veg time and a lot of defoliation.
That pump/spray setup is going to overheat your water and clog with roots.
The lamp is too small for a 2'X4' by itself.

My advice would be to start/learn by using coco w/perlite in airpots or smartpots. Hand water.
Add more light for flowering."

Good luck either way.

Puffenuff, at this time I am only using half the light for seedlings as I only have the vegging switched on which concentrates on the blue wavelengths. Ellydee, the actual area with the pots is 18" x 31" so less than 2' x 4.' If I want to grow aeroponics what experience would using coco w/ perlite teach me? The intensity of the light will more than double when I add the flowering switch on which adds the red wavelengths. I will put them in the net pots in another week or so when the seedlings mature more. What's the difference is using clones rather than seeds, more time? It's all new to me. I'm posting here to learn from you guys. Thanks.

So when you switch on the other half of the lights, it will be pulling 300w? I'm asking because some leds are called 300w because there are 100x3w leds but in reality, they aren't driven at a full 3w each so then they are really only pulling something like 230w for example.

Right, the power draw is 240w

Clones will flower as soon as you switch to 12/12 what ever size/age they are.

As where beans will not flower till they are mature enough...that usually takes 4-5 weeks. Then it will start to flower. They keep vegging and will get too big of your system by the start of flower.

You can do less plants, not using all the holes and try to keep thinks in check size wise. Looks like you aren't planning on using all of them anyways.

I see. I was going to start cloning off them when I could to fill out the net pot holes. I gather I should have 2 tents so I can have ready mother/clones under 18 hr light when I go into the 2 month 12 hr flowering period if I want to make this work.

Looking good so far, Edge. I'd also recommend growing fewer plants in that system. You'll be surprised how big they'll get. Looking forward to seeing how things turn out for you. Good luck.

By the way, I use seeds because that's all I have available where I live and in my last grow I induced flowering after only 3 weeks. Saw flowers appear in 1-2 weeks, which is normal after switching to 12/12. And don't worry about roots clogging your sprayers. If roots will clog your sprayers, then they'll also clog my drip ring. Just don't let roots get near your water pump intake. Sprayer nozzles are often pretty big anyway, so I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Day 9, I had my LED 23" from the seedlings, the first week. Now I have them at 18" from the net pots. Can i placed the 300W LED closer? I only have the vegging light- red wavelengths concentrated turned on.

Your light panel ought to have instructions about height above canopy at different stages of your grow. Area 51 has it on its web site. You should check the web site of YOUR panel, because all panels have different brightnesses and lenses that focus their beams differently.

You could check Area 51's recommendations, but I'm not sure if they'll be ok for your panel:

Don't get the lights too close to the seedlings, give them some time to make some second leaves and then drop her down. I am using 3 300w leds over one tray and 1 300w led in my veg tent and I kinda hurt my seedlings the light was a little too intense.

I am excited finally someone else has the same model as me so we can compare and what not.

How close did you have them? What do you think the appropriate distance is in your case. I used zip ties to stabilized the spraying manifold.

Edge you need to think about converting to dwc, that water pump is going to give temp problems. For shit's and gig's I threw in the one I have into my 6.5 gallons once and it didn't take 20 minutes to take my temps well past comfortable. Listen to whoever that LED (elly) guy is. lol very consistent, sound advice.

I would go ahead and leave both switches on in veg, unless you are trying to control stretch (stunt w too much blue).

What is the led's of each channel/switch? Any white's for mixing?

Plants use all the nm's of light one way or another.... just some more than others and in respect to the rest of the wavelengths. Right? Having the light on "full spectrum" and letting the light mix on it's way down is going to be better than over saturating it with a margin of the wavelengths it needs for Photosynthesis. (that first part's from my brother Tags, credit is due)

I would start back at 24-32" on full spectrum if it is a ~250w draw panel, if not 34-36" personally.

Then creep down like 2" a day, settling at 18" once shes established. Good luck grower

I wasn't aware of bubbleponics when I initiated my first grow. I may also have too many net pot sites to do bubbleponics. The draw on this LED with both switches running is 240W. It has 11 bands - 760nm, 740nm, 720nm, 660nm, 630nm, 615nm, 480nm, 460nm, 440nm, 415nm, 380nm but I'm not sure what the concentration is for each wavelength. I was a bit nervous on posting pics of the grow so I took them down, maybe later.
