This is my first grow ever. I'm growing it under two bright white 18w 1100 lumen CFLs that are almost an inch apart from the leaves and a 1750 lumen CFL with a reflector that is hanging above the plant. It's been growing for over a week and I posted some pics here for you guys to judge. There's some soil on the leaves incase youre wondering

It does look a bit stretched, but hey that's growing for you.

Have you thought about adding some more lighting.
When it comes to CFLs, the more the merrier.

Yes, your seedling is way stretched! I would recommend getting more light. Go to Wal-Mart or Home Depot and buy at least 4, 26 watt (100 watt equiv.) CFL's at 6500k.

I just now rearranged my lights. I put my two 26 watt cfls closer to the plant and put the 18 watt ones by themselves (one in the reflector). Should this stop the stretching?

That should be good..make sure not to get them too close though!!! also make sure you keep an eye on your soil..the taproot isnt that far down and the soil is going to dry up quick!

Yea, those 3 CFL's should be enough for that one plant for 3 weeks or so. Also, I would have started it in a smaller pot. What size pot is that? I say this because you are going to need to transplant to a bigger pot for it's final stage of growth. And since that plant is in a bigger pot, it will take longer to establish a healthy root system.

Don't worry, you won't burn them. You can keep those CFL's as close to an inch or so away. Try to stay between 1-2 inches and you should be fine.

it's a 2 gallon pot. I grew it in a cup first and someone told me i should transplant it right away.. so I did. Should I transplant it again to a smaller pot?

No, don't transplant again. But that pot is not going to be big enough.

I saw your thread, those are all outside now. So you grew them in bigger pots then planted them? Since he isn't growing in the ground, I'd stick with smaller 16 oz cups to start, then move to much bigger pots.

Wait so once a seed germinates you can't just put it in a 5 gallon bucket if you don't feel like transferring it every week or two to a new pot or bucket. I planned on germing my seeds and then just put them in their own 5 gallon buckets and let them sprout and grow there.

Thats perfectly fine to do as i did...after they were germinated I put them in a little jiffy cup until sprouted(about the size shown in the pix) then put them in a 5.5 gallon pot then let the little thing grow from there....

ok after a day of this lighting... the seedling changed alot. It's pointing upwards... still a long stem.. and one of the tips of the leaves are yellow. Anyone know the cause? Should I keep going with this plant? I used all purpose black gold soil w/ multicote I bought from walmart.. 0.13, 0.05, 0.10.

Leaves will tend to point up like that when they are happy. I've also seen it occur a few hours after watering them. When was this pic taken? Everything looks good to me.

lol I did water it the day before this happened. I checked the plant this morning and the yellowing seemed to worsen. It's starting on the edge of the other tip now and there's some tiny yellow spots. I'm thinking it's a heat issue. So I fixed up my fan and raised the lights higher. Here it is now.

Hmmm, what kind of soil do you have them in? Are you using nutes at all? What's your PH like? Also, it could be heat, they tend to crisp up at the ends and either curl down or upwards.

I used a random soil since it was my first grow.. all purpose black gold soil w/ multicote (0.13,0.05,0.10). But I heard it would be fine to grow in.. I never checked the ph yet.

You should get those rapid test meters..they work pretty well and very easy to use

That could also be part of the problem. If you are watering with non PHed water, it could be throwing the soils PH off as well, thus locking out nutes like N.
