First Grow: PC Micro Grow Purple Kush

So today (day 12), when I opened the case to check on the seedling (after having the lights off for 6 hours), I noticed the two serrated leaves were standing up quite a bit pointed upwards.

The "top" piece between the leaves if starting to grow outwards, and I am just curious at what point should I start topping or setup my SCROG.

Thanks all!

no,

you wont be needing to setup anything for a few weeks.
once there are more then a handful of real nodes and the plant is taller and is producing side shoots.

your seedling is stretching.....move your light within 2 inches of the top
what lights(s) are you using? use 6500k to keep the plant compact and keep internode spacing tight.

fill your pot up to the top to support the stretched stem some more too

when you repot to a larger one.....bury the plant right up to the first set of leaves you see now

Thanks!

My seedling is within 2 inches of the lights at the top, however it did stretch A LOT before I managed to move it so close. I am using 2 x 6500k 40watt CFL's. I will add more soil tomorrow.

I am going to try avoiding repotting if I can, I would like to keep this one quite small. I can move it out of the PC and into my closet as soon as i'm finished wiring some stuff up, but I still won't have much more width wise only height wise.

If I can I'd like to keep the plant under 1.5 feet tall in the end.

off to a good start man.. i suggest tying it down even just once or twice to promote a better yield + save space in your pc case..heres a couple pics of my last pc grow..weighed about a quarter dry..tied it down only once or twice and dident veg for very longg:leaf:

Thanks everyone.

I've thrown some more pictures at the bottom taken today (14 days from seed), still vegging with 18/6, my plants are on a small platform about 2" from the CFL's.

My plan is to start LST once I am on my 4th set of serrated leaves, but I have a few questions:

- Do I remain in veg until I run out of room around the circumference of the pot?
- Assuming I make it around the pot using LST, how long should I continue to let it veg before flowering?

Cheers!

So I checked on my seedling this morning (17 days since I planted her seed), and I've noticed she's starting to get little brown spots on the tips of the leaves.

Is there any way to tell what's causing these spots? There is a picture below.

Thanks for the quick reply!

How do I know when to switch from veg to flowering? I've read that the plant itself doesn't grow much taller when flowering, but does fill out a lot width wise, and since I'm growing in this small space size is definitely an issues. I'd say I could probably let the plant get 2 feet tall, but I'm hoping to implement some hardcore LST tactics to help me out.
In general, the earliest people typically switch to restricted light flowering is when the plant is sexually mature at about 3 weeks after germination. When that happens, the plant usually shows "pre-flowers" or single flowers at the leaf-stem nodes. It may also switch from paired leaves on the stems to alternating ones.

In your case, where height is a limiting factor, you might run the ENTIRE grow from seed to harvest under 12-12 lighting. That will minimize vertical growth during the vegetative/pre-flowering phase to help keep the plant as short as possible.

I'm not sure exactly what you've read, but typically plants will double in height (and in some cases TRIPLE) after flowering is started. That's the famous "stretch". At some point thereafter, they settle down and won't grow that much more in height, but if you wait until your plant almost fills your box before flowering it, you're going to have a problem!
