First grow, medium questions.

Hey there, I'm starting my first ever grow in a couple of days and I'm trying to decide on my growing medium. I've decided on either soil or coco coir, just wondering the pros/cons of the two options. main reason for considering the coco over soil is I can't seem to find a reputable brand of soil here in Canada. Any advice is appreciated, thanks.

I would personally take coco over soil but id suggest a perlite hempy over a coco/soilless drain to waste rig for a new grower. Not exactly what you were asking but thats my opinion.

Do a little research on hempy buckets, you can mix em a bunch of different ways but for a new grower its hard to beat a 100% perlite hempy. Iv grown several different ways but still run perlite hempys. Coco is great after ya get the hang of it. Perlite never changes. Just google them and read up, its a great way to get into it.

I have a question about fertilizers, didn't want to start another thread for no reason. but I read somewheres that nutes should be about 7-5-3 for veg and 3-5-7 for flowering. Just looking to confirm that and also since I don't have a lot of options here being in a small town if something like a 4-4-7 or a 4-6-8 npk would work for flowering? Just trying to wrap my head around this nutrient stuff. Thanks.

I've been reading about this hempy stuff and it seems more straight forward, not trying to argue since I am new but where I can't get great soil here I feel I might try the hempy method. I plan on growing six or so plants so maybe I'll do a few of each and see how they work out.

Only reason I say hempys is because they are easy, fast, and produce great. You have a problem in soil you have to go thru a process of elimination to figure it out, perlite is inert and doesnt retain hardly any water so overwatering is virtually impossible and you can grow a big plant in a 3 gallon hempy. For nutes run lucas n get some cal/mag, its not the best but it produces very well. Hempys are easier than soil, great for beginners n pros alike. Research lucas hempy buckets n ur good to go. I wouldnt ask anyone for advice on npk or nute manufacturers on this site, you will end up more confused than when you started

I second the Hempy idea. I use coco over perlite with Advanced nutrients PH perfect nutes and RO water. Don't even need to use my meters anymore!
