first grow ever??

okay this will be my first attempt to grow. I'm planning to grow atleast
four plants in my closet ( its big enough, i think ). Anyways i have a
some questions. Should i use miricle grow for the soil, if not what kind?
Preferably stuff i can easily get from walmart. And about lighting. My
old friend who used to grow said to feed the plants then put them in
light for 16 hours than leave them in the dark for 16 hours then to feed
them again and keep doing this plan until im finished growing? Should i?
Oh yeah, when they start getting bigger and start smelling, how can i
disguise the smell? Not that i want to, but i will have to. Because theres
a door right beside the closet. One more question, if i burn insense would
it hurt the plants, or kill them? Look at this picture, this is what i plan on
doing, is it bad? or what?

Don't use Miracle Grow soil. It has nutrients in it. Seedlings can't handle nutes. Get a soil that has NO nutes in it.

Set your light cycle to 18/6.

Let them get maybe a foot tall before giving them nutrients.

When you finally DO start feeding them, get Miracle Grow All Purpose for veg and Miracle Grow Bloom Booster for flowering.

When its time to flower, set the light cycle to 12/12.

Burn incense outside the closet door. Smoke is not good for plants.
