First Grow Ever - 5x5 Tent 600Watt HPS Jack Herrer

I'd like to first start out with this is my first cannabis grow.

I have always been intrigued by a plant that has so much stigma around it. How can growing a plant that grows naturally from the ground be so illegal?

I am a huge plant lover! Vegetables, peppers, fruit, anything beautiful and lush. I am a natural green thumb and have excellent gardens I've been growing. So I've decided to try my skills at growing indoor cannabis for fun and well.... You know why! :)

Specs about my setup.

Gorilla Grow Tent 5x5
600Watt HPS Xtrasun Bulb 2k
8" Xtrasun 84 Air Cooled Hood
8" Active Inline Air Fan
8" Max Duct Ducting

Couple of fans for circulation and have the tent negative pressure pulling air from bottom vent and exhausting out the top.

Ambient temps for the tent are usually between 78-82 during light operation. Canopy temps are around 78-80 degrees.

I have been watering with tap water that I have PH'ed down in the 6.5 Range.

I currently have the light on a 18/6 light schedule. And the light is approximately 14" above the top of my tallest plant.

I planted 5 Jack Herrer seeds on 8/25/2016 and they germinated on 8/29/2016.

Two plants showed faster initial growth and the other three have been behind the rest of the way.

It is now 9/18/2016 so my plants are almost 3 weeks old. I planted them initially in seed starting soil for the first 1.5 weeks then repotted them in miracle grow soil. (Yes I know shame on me. I will most likely repot them if I have issues with the soil but have researched and seen that you can grow just fine in it if you don't fertilize as often. To avoid burning the plants.)

I noticed after about 5-6 days in the miracle grow soil. Golden burned areas on the lower leaves and not on the new growth. I have since attributed this to the high amount of fertilzer and the small size of the plant that comes in the miracle grow potting mix. I have since kept a close eye and it seems to be contained to only the bottom old leaves which I have proceeded to trim once the plant has gotten large enough. I only tripped the two largest plants.

It is still too early for me to sex them but any experience with faster growing plants being males? Let me know.

Other than all that information I am more than open to receiving advice to help this grow go as smoothly as possible.

I plan on vegging the plants till they are at least 12-14"

Here are the pictures of my setup and the plants. I have included two pictures of each plant.

So. Update. Plants have been growing faster and look better after upping my fan to keep temps a little cooler. I also repotted each of the plants which are ALL FEMALES. What is the luck of that. Into smart 5 gallon grow bags.

I'm using Roots Organic. Dumped the miracle grow and tried to remove as much of it as I could.

Dont mind the droopiness of the plants. Its because I just repotted them an hour ago and watered them. Should perk up by tmrw.

Update. 10/04/2016 picture.

Today I trimmed up a couple of leaves that were yellowing or blocking light to new stems and nodes. I also Supercropped some branches on the smaller tighter plants.

Before super cropping.

Update 10/21/2016

Any tips?

Plants have been vegging for almost 2 months. I am going to turn the lights to 12/12 in a week.

Here are the latest pictures.

Here are a couple of shots of my largest baby. I have no clue why some plants grew slowly and others are huge....

This was before adding boxes to try to even out the canopy.

This is about as even as I can get the canopy for now. Dont know what to expect when I go to flower. Not sure what to expect as far as stretch..

Hope you got more headroom. They could easily double in height.

Got them going good now after a sketchy start.

:peace:

10 days into flowering. I started the 12/12 on October 27, 2016

Have to move the light up every couple of days the plants are stretching that's for sure. The monster in the middle has so many "tops", that I assume will be mini colas! So excited! The one in the right rear corner also has a lot of "tops".

November 15, 2016 update.

2.5 weeks into flowering!

Plants are looking good. Middle plant started to bleach a little on the top of the main cola so moved the light up. To about 14" away.

Here are the pics.

11/27/2016 Update

4.5 weeks of flowering. Buds are getting much larger and buds are starting to get crystally.

Largest plant has been yellowing a bit on the fan leaves. Started feeding half veg nutes and half flower nutes until week 6.

Thursday will be week 5. How long should I expect to flower these? Expecting 9 weeks.
