First Grow, Cheap Set-Up

Hey everyone, this is my first time growing marijuana and it is more of a test to learn some key elements to growing while I build my elaborate stealth box.

I am going to use a dutch method of switching to 12/12 after they have sprouted for fast flowering/sexing, small plants, and most likely low yield.

Soil:
The soil I am currently using is miracle grow potting soil, mixed with miracle grow perlite.

Lighting:
I am using a two tube 48" fluorescent work light that is dangling from the ceiling.

Grow Room:
I have this set up in an attic space. It is actually very dusty in there and there's lots of old, something, like dusty cloth crap, I don't really know what it is, but it is all over.

Air Circulation:
I have a large fan in there that is pointed at a spot on the wall so it blows over the plants but not with a ton of force.

Other:
I also have a heating pad underneath the little jiffy pots I started them for on cold nights.

-Day 7-

Today is actually day 7 in my growing excursion. When I started I let the seeds germinate until only a tiny white tip poked out. They are growing pretty nicely for only being in soil for a week. My biggest one is about 3 inches right now, there is only 1 out of the 10 pots that doesn't look like it will sprout up. I am going to get a timer in the next few days and start flowering them. I will then keep the best 4 females and grow them all the way. Here is the set up as of today. Questions and comments are welcome!

What do you think I will yield per plant if I stick with this light and start flowering now? (I know it will be low)

Yes, but only for a couple of reasons.

1. It was free

2. I don't want to put any money into this grow op

3. I am getting a 400 watt hps for my grow box so this is basically a low yielding test to see how the stuff grows and get my little questions out of the way

But yea, I know that is a very crappy low lumen light for flowering, but it's free, I ain't complainin'

your plants will not start flowering until they are sexually mature even if you do a 12/12 light schedule right now it wont matter!

I've read up and I thought as soon as they get into a 12/12 lighting routine something tells the plants it's time to flower and they start the process. If not I guess I'll find out >< haha

It will but only if the plant has sexually matured. you should wait untill the plants are at least 12'' to 16'' tall with like 4 or 5 nodes the ur plants should be ready and you will get a better yield. if you put them in to a 12/12 now they will get a lot of stretch and they wont show sex untill they are ready.

I'm pretty sure the 12/12 lighting will make them show sex early, it's a mechanism built into the plants. You can check it out here if you want to read up:

12/12 will make them show sex roughly within 3 weeks usually 2 tho and there are plenty of people who flower with tube floros and get great results.however they arnt as great as a hid and you wont yield as much as you would with a HPS

That's what I was thinking

But what kind of yield do you think I will be looking at with that same setup just raising the light to keep right above them? I also might get a big cardboard box in there, and put tinfoil on the insides to reflect light, if I can get a big enough box. But yea, how much would an average yielding plant yield under these conditions? I just kinda want to know what a tube floro yield is.

ya Randy really knows his shit and although its sometimes hard to read all his posts cause of his dyslexia he sets it out pretty simple.(ya randy ive read all your journals just never posted in them lol and i hope the new place is working out for you)
but he grows 12/12 from seed so obviously his arnt sexually mature... seeing how they show sex within 20 days for him.

yield i cant tell you its allways different dependant on strains and conditions even a few degrees in temp changes it or light or wattage so i cant tell you.just do it and find out experiment and adjust till you satisfied.Besides the best herb is your own herb.

Haha well thanks guys! I'll definitely read them and see what it's all about. And those plants look beautiful, hopefully when I build a box I can make some beauties also!

But for now, these must be tended to. And yea, I can hope for a 1/2 oz and see where it goes

Well I have been watering my babies daily now. It is almost the end of week number 2 and they have been on 12/12 for I think 4 days maybe. A couple of them are growing their second sets of leaves. If I am doing 12/12 will the plants be able to survive long enough in those little jiffy pots I am using? I wanted to make sure I had 4 females before putting them into the big pots, but I am wondering if they will survive long enough in the little pots. Anyone?

Today marks week 2 of the growing. I am going to take my best 4 looking plants and put them into bigger pots and bury the stems since they stretched a little. I believe they will grow faster if I put them in bigger pots because I think the small pots might be stunting their growth. Anyone else to confirm that?
