first grow, box size, SCROG?

The grow box I made is 18" wide, 24" deep, and 54" tall. I am going to use cfl's for the grow and I am growing in soil.

I have 5 seeds germinated and they are about 3 inches out of the soil now (about a week from seed). Hopefully I get at least 3 females from this but I guess I'll see what happens with that later.

This is my first grow and I was wanting input on what I should do. Should I just let them get about a foot tall and then flower (4'6" height in box) or would I be better off doing a SCROG with my box dimensions?

I have no idea what strain I have, I was walking in a state wildlife area and found about ten plants growing that had went to seed and got some of the seed to use LOL. Any input on this is welcome.

Your box size it good for 2 plants scrogged, 3 will be tight. I would definitely scrog though if you plan on using cfls.

Thanks 420GOD! I have read a lot about scrogging and I am fairly confident that I can do it easily enough. The only questions I still have on a SCROG is, Given my box height, how tall should I let the plants get before I put the screen over them and start training? Also, since I have 5 growing I am hoping for at least 3 females, how hard is it going to be to take out the males once I start training or will they show sex before I get to that point?

Hmm, picking out males in advance is a tricky one. I personally would LST the plants so they're not stuck to a screen just incase things change and you can easily remove the males if need be.

There are some really good LSTing techniques you can use that might be easier than scrog.

Height for screen approx 12” above pots and let screen fill approx 60% before changing lights they grow 2 weeks after remember

I thought about LST'ing but this being my first grow I wanted something really simple and a SCROG looks pretty easy. Depending on how this first grow goes I might just try an LST on my next grow. Thanks for that link! A nice clear, set of instructions and pics. Awesome.

Just took the vscrog screen out of my setup as taking forever to train, may take 8 weeks to get screen filled and I got no height issues. 6 widow looking awesome now with 5 or 6 main cola branches on each so training not wasted jour buds should grow even about 8” above screen so take as high as u dare, especially usin cfl
