First Grow! Blue Dream w/ T5 HO

Earlier last week I picked up some Blue Dream clones as I finished up my grow box, and as of 04/9/12 They were put in the box under the light, ready to grow

Before I begin the setup is a 22"d X 30"w X 40"h box I made myself, covered in Mylar, and installed intake/exhaust PC fans rated at 55 cfm each I believe.
I originally constructed a CFL light fixture, but wasn't overall pleased with it and decided to go buy a Hydrofarm 2' 4 Tube T5 HO system. I will most likely supplement this with 1 tube T5s around, or CFLs, whichever is easiest for me to get my hands on.


(This is not the location of the box, this is just where I built it. It is hidden nicely in the closet in my room.)



I also picked up so Floranova Bloom and Grow from a local Hydro store.



The girls were originally planted in 7 inch pots for about 3-4 days, pretty much till I had the time to run to Home Depot.




4/12/12 - The clones got transplanted into 3 gallon buckets, and it sure is a tight squeeze in there. I couldn't go bigger if I wanted to.

4/13/12, most of the clones were in the process their 4th(a couple their 5th) set of leaves, and being in a confined space I knew I need to train them somehow, so I decided to go with LST. I started to bend the plants down and hopefully they'll turn up to the light soon, I'll post pics as soon as they start to.


I did initially over water them a tad bit to much, and their leaves are curling a little bit. This should fix itself soon.

too soon to LST, imo. you have no lower nodes to expose yet. we LST to expose lower nodes to light. grow a few more nodes before bending over. don't be so eager.....lol.

Isn't LST no only to help expose but also shape the plant? most of my plants bent over are already at the edge of the pot, which I will encompass around. I would undo it but wouldn't undoing it only increase the chance causing too much stress? since they will most likely just go back to it in the next couple days. Regardless I still appreciate the advice.

They seem to be doing fine in the anyways, they've all adjusted up and towards the light.





Humidity seems a bit up today, must be because of the thunderstorm going on here, been pouring the past day or so and will continue. Prior to the storm humidity in the box was 30-40% I wanna say. Temps have been great inside but hopefully it holds up when the weather gets to 100 degrees +


Also, one of the pots has retained a lot of moisture and the soil is visibly wet still while all the others have reacted normally and drank up the water completely. Should i worry about this?

Last night being a drunk a fucked up my timer settings and the girls got about 8-10 hours of darkness after being on a 22/2 light cycle. I promptly fixed it this morning when I realized what I did, and while the plants seem fine, they don't look as lively as they did before. I wouldn't think this would cause any major problems, but I wanted to make sure just in case

4 of the 6 were ready for their second tie down, the other 2 look like they still need at least another 2 days before they're ready for this.


Humidity is a bit high, what are my options for getting this down? I've somewhat looked into dehumidifiers but nothing crazy.

u took the LST too far too soon..u pretty much at cutting the cirulation off tht one thts like snapped..undo them and stake them up for a while until they're strong again and have atleast 5 nodes..then bend gradually. u need a couter tie on them so it doesnt put so much pressure on the roots getting pulled up once it starts really pulling up..good luck

are you referring to the second picture? I had already loosened it a little since taking that picture. The stem has a nice clean bend in it though, it isn't snapped or creased and is actually growing better than almost all the others. My buddy who is an experienced grower inclined me to trying to LST them early, he claims it makes them even bushier, so I was willing to see where it went, seeing I've tried some of his bud and its fire.

Also about the roots pulling up, by buddy said that due to starting the LST early the roots/stem don't tug so much on each other due to the plant being very flexible at such a young age.

ya i was talking about the second pic but if u loosend it good. i just usually wait until i see a flowering point to expose..i mean LST'ing at the bottome node i wud think wudnt work but ill watch what u do and see

yeah its my first grow anyways and im willing to test not necessarily regular methods

hey Cen i think they look good for the early LST and hopfully they continue to have vigirous growth! i would be very interested in testing this type of cabinet if it shows to be a success, best of luck to u and ill be keeing on eye on the ladies

The 4 outside ones are growing great, one in particular is doing spectacular for at least what I know. The 2 middle ones are for some reason growing at a much slower pace. As seen here:

This is the one that seems to be growing at a rapid pace, It doesn't seem like stretching so I hope it is just good solid growth.

Been a while since ive updated.

Ive added 2 more t5 lights to the box making 6, and during flowering I will add 2 more, making 8.
I also added 2 3000k bulbs to widen the spectrum a bit since I have more bulbs now.


Plants are growing great as well. I have FIMed them all once by now, and growth continues to progress well.


Temps are starting to become an issue since summers get hot here. I don't think its poor ventilation but just the hotness in general. Whats the best way to keep this down? Running the AC all day isnt really an option.

EDIT: Thinking about how it is hotter than it should be, I moved the thermometer to the same level as the plants, rather than above the light fixture. Well see how this checks out after an hour or so

plants r looking good! have you thought about making a DIY swamp cooler, im sure it could be done very simpe and inexpensive

not quite sure what this means... :/

its pretty much just a fan with some kind of semi absorbent material (sealed cardboard, maybe a sponge idk) behind the fan and then cold water is constantly dripped on the material and cools the air as the fan pushes it into the room, it may raise your humidity level so youd probably wanna keep this outside your flower room but try to cool the air outside of it, it may help

ya i do the cup and sponge method..i just put it under light near my plants so its evaporates and puts moisture in the air.. gave me +20%
