Buy a cheap magnifier at least 30x. Look at the tricomes. Cloudy trics with no clear ones and a litte amber is what yiur after... looking at hair color is not always a good way to decide... with experience you will know when jus by glancing at a plant.

he does not NEEED a magnifier, it's pretty clear when its ready 75-85% will have gone brown/amber
